As part of our Corporate Responsibility reporting we plan, over time, to report on Key Performance Indicators which are relevant to our business, such as initiatives including environmental impact, community engagement, supply chain management and staff issues such as engagement and diversity.

Indices and Surveys

Thomson Reuters has been independently assessed according to the FTSE4Good criteria and has satisfied the requirements to become a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series. Created by the global index company FTSE Group, FTSE4Good is an equity index series that is designed to facilitate investment in companies that meet globally recognised corporate responsibility standards. Companies in the FTSE4Good Index Series have met stringent social, ethical and environmental criteria, and are positioned to capitalise on the benefits of responsible business practice.

Thomson Reuters was ranked 14th on Corporate Knights annual list of the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada.  The methodology for the Best 50 Corporate Citizens is based on environment, social and governance indicators found in the public domain.  The 2008 report can be accessed on line via this link.

Prior to the acquisition, both Thomson and Reuters were included in various socially responsible or ethical involvement indices.

The Thomson Corporation

Maclean’s Magazine, in partnership with Jantzi Research, published its first-ever ranking of the most socially responsible companies operating in North America, in which The Thomson Corporation ranked in the top ten in the tech-media-telecom sector.

The Thomson Corporation was graded B+ with highlighted areas including the environmental, health and safety policy and employee benefits which include childcare subsidies, retirement benefits and flexible work schedules.  It also commended the company’s recruitment from disadvantaged groups, diversity training, monitoring and educational programs.

The Thomson Corporation is also listed as a constituent in the Jantzi Social Index® (JSI®), a socially screened, market capitalization-weighted common stock index modeled on the S&P/TSX 60. The JSI consists of 60 Canadian companies that pass a set of broadly-based ESG screens.


Reuters Group PLC

Reuters was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, based on research gathered by SAM (Sustainable Asset Management).  As one of the top-scoring companies in each of the 57 sectors assessed by SAM, Reuters Group PLC is included in “The Sustainability Yearbook. 2008.” www.sam-group.com/yearbook.

As a result of the acquisition of Reuters by The Thomson Corporation, and pursuant to the Guidelines of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Reuters was deleted as an Index component until the sustainability profile of the new entity is assessed.

Reuters Group PLC is also listed in the FTSE4Good Index, the Ethibel Sustainability Indices and the Ethibel Pioneer Investment Register.
