The Thomson Reuters Foundation, is a UK and US registered charity whose key priorities are to advance education, humanitarian aid and the environment
With the closing of the acquisition of Reuters on 17 April 2008, the Foundation has recently taken new leadership with the appointments of Chairman Richard J.Harrington and Chief Executive Officer Monique Villa
The aim of the Foundation is to leverage the skills and expertise across the various Thomson Reuters businesses in ways that will benefit the communities in which Thomson Reuters works worldwide. This is done through a variety of supported initiatives.
The Foundation has historically run three core programs:
- Journalism training
- AlertNet (www.alertnet.org)
- The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.
It will continue to run these programs and will expand to take on more initiatives to best reflect the new Thomson Reuters organization.
