Error: Could not extract schema for computation in Corporation Tax Advanced

You can create an Early Build period to solve the error you get when you try to create an accounting period that ends within a period not yet covered by Corporation Tax Advanced.

Scenario

You might get the following error message when you try to create a new accounting period.
Error message
Company '
Company Name
' (Company Code) period
xx/xx/xx
-
xx/xx/xx
: Error creating CT Advanced comp: context = Set period dates in AUTO, error number = -2147467259, message = Could not extract schema declaration from file.

Causes

This error is caused by an accounting period that ends within a financial period not yet covered by the version of Corporation Tax Advanced you have.
Corporation Tax Advanced has tax logic up to 31 March, but our initial release of Corporation Tax Advanced for a new tax year may not always contain the tax logic update to the following March immediately. This is not usually a problem because CT600 is not due to be filed until 12 months after the period end date, but it can affect companies in liquidation that want to file their final period as soon as possible.

Solution

If tax logic is not available for the period you want to create, you can create an Early Build period, which uses the prior year's tax logic. You can then enter data but you won't be able to file online until we release an updated version of Corporation Tax Advanced.
  1. Select
    Company
    , then
    Accounting Periods
    .
  2. Select the period then
    Edit
    .
  3. Overtype the dates with dates for the prior 12 month period.
  4. When the period opens, select
    File
    , then
    Save
    .
  5. Select
    Company
    , then
    Accounting Periods
    .
  6. Select
    New
    .
  7. Add the period you wish to deal with.
  8. Select
    OK
    .

Next steps

When the next version of Corporation Tax Advanced is available you will be able to update the tax logic when you open the file.
