Standard Categories

Standard categories help manage your FBT liability by allowing you to classify benefits within a workpaper. Standard categories make it easy to identify recurring benefit types, and can either be unique, shared between similar benefits, or available in all benefit workpapers. The standard category column allows the preparer to classify the provision of benefits into sub-groups for internal reporting purposes.
Use of standard categories is optional and the
Standard Category
column is hidden by default in workpapers, but can be made visible.
note
Adding a standard category to an employee in the Employee workpaper as well as other benefit workpapers allows you to use this standard category as the default standard category that will populate with each new benefit provided to this employee in these workpapers.

Add Standard Categories

  1. Select
    Administration
    , then
    Standard Categories
    on the navigation bar.
  2. Select the first empty row.
  3. In the
    Standard Category
field, enter the standard category name. This is the name you will see in the dropdown list in the workpaper.
  4. Select the
    Associated Workpapers
field and choose 1 or more item from the list that opens. The following example shows a standard category value called Gift Voucher that is assigned to the Expense Benefit and Property Benefit workpapers.
  5. To save your data, click anywhere outside the row.

Upload Standard Categories

Standard categories can be added using an upload template.
Populate the upload file using the appropriate template, and add the workpaper name(s) to assign the standard category to one or more workpapers.
Acceptable workpaper names are:
  • AdHoc or Ad hoc
  • Board
  • CarPark or car park
  • DebtWaiver or debt waiver
  • Employee
  • Entertainment
  • Expense
  • Housing
  • LAFHA or Living Away From Home
  • Loan
  • Property
  • Residual
  • Vehicle
You must refresh any open benefit workpapers following any change to the name of a standard category. There is no retrospective change to existing standard categories available via the default employee standard category. The historical data is retained and can only be modified manually.
