When an employee makes an after-tax contribution to the employer, the taxable value is reduced. However, if the contribution is greater than the taxable value, the excess amount does not reduce the taxable value below 0.
The Overpaid Contribution Report provides a summary of employee contributions and the amounts applied in excess of the taxable value. Amounts in excess can be refunded to the employee, or dealt with as agreed between the employer and employee. For example, overpaid contributions can be set aside for a later FBT year.
