Create a dataset

A dataset is a snapshot of data for a particular reporting period and purpose. Datasets organize return information such as:
  • Start and end dates
  • Period length
  • Purpose
  • Entities
  • Assigned return templates
You must create at least 1 dataset before you can import data and create calculations. You will create your first dataset during your initial ONESOURCE configuration.
  1. Select
    Calculations
    , then
    Calculations
    again from the main menu.
  2. On the Calculations window, select
    Add
    on the toolbar.
  3. On the Dataset Properties window, complete all fields, then select

  4. The
    Entities
    tab is pre-populated with a list of entities that can be included in the dataset. Check the box next to each entity you want to include. The list shows entities you created.
    • If there is a short name for the entity, select the
      Show entity short name
      check box to show the short name.
    • The
      Select child entities when group selected
      checkbox is checked by default. When this box is checked, selecting the top level entity selects the child entities below it. If you want to select the top level without automatically selecting the child entities, clear the
      Select child entities when group selected
      checkbox.
    • The values in curly brackets
      { }
      indicate the name of the template.
    • You can select
      +
      or
      -
      next to a list item to expand or collapse the list.
    • You can type a phrase in the
      Find
      box to quickly find a particular dataset.
  5. Select
    Next
    to continue.
  6. On the
    Templates
    tab, check the checkbox next to an entity and use the
    Assign a template to the selected entities
    dropdown.
    Consider the following:
    • To change the default template assigned to each entity, select the template name and when highlighted, make a choice from the dropdown list
    • To create a return from a previous template version, select Show all template versions and select a template from the dropdown list.
    • To assign a template to multiple entities simultaneously, select the check boxes next to the entity names, and select a template from the dropdown list in the dialog box header.
    • A previous template version cannot be assigned to multiple entities in this way.
    • The return name is automatically generated. To rename it, select the return name to highlight it and enter the new name.
  7. If you select
    Finish
    , you complete this procedure. If you want to add optional sheets, select
    Next
    .
  8. On the Sheets window, select optional sheets, as required, to add to each template. Select a template from the first dropdown menu and select the check box next to each additional sheet to be added.
  9. Select

    to add the selected sheets to the template. To remove a sheet from a template, clear the check box next to the sheet.
  10. Select
    Finish
    to create the dataset and return to the calculations window.
