Overview of annotations

You can annotate DT FileCabinet documents by attaching notes, highlighting, audio files, images, tickmarks, and marks created with the pencil annotation tool. The initial position of an annotation is determined by the method you use to place it on a page. After adding an annotation, you can change the font, background, frame (for text annotations), and colour (for highlighter, pencil, and tickmark annotations). You can also cut, copy, and paste annotations.

To view a tool tip that indicates the creator and creation date, position the pointer over an annotation.

Right-click an annotation to open the context menu from which you can access annotation properties and change attributes such as colour and transparency.

To open areas where you can set default attributes for all annotations, right-click in the Watch window and choose

Default Annotation Properties

from the context menu. You can also choose Setup > User Preferences > Misc tab and click the Default Annotation Properties button.

To designate changes that you make to an annotation's properties as defaults for other annotations, right-click an annotation and choose

Current Annotation Properties

from the context menu, then click the Set as Default button.

You can turn on continuous mode for any annotation. When the

Continuous mode

checkbox is marked in the Current Annotation Properties dialog, the selected annotation type is active until you click the toolbar button, press ESC, or clear the

Continuous mode

checkbox.

You can cut, copy, or paste annotations between documents and pages through commands in the Edit menu, or through the right-click context menu for an annotation.

To apply an annotation to all pages of a multiple-page document, right-click the annotation and choose

Apply to all pages

from the context menu. If you choose Apply to all pages from the context menu again, the annotation will appear only on the current page. With the exception of size and position changes, changes that you make to an annotation that you applied to multiple pages are reflected on all pages.

When you add an annotation, its position is determined by the method you use to place it. You can drag the annotation to any location in the Watch window by clicking the annotation and holding down the left mouse button.

You can resize an annotation by clicking and dragging the handles along the outside of the annotation.

To change the order of superimposed annotations, right-click the annotations and choose

Send Annotation to the front

or

Send Annotation to the back

from the context menu.
