Configuring Outlook to use Google Gmail for your POP3 account

Follow these steps to configure Microsoft Outlook to use Google Gmail for your POP3 account.
  1. In the Internet E-mail Settings page of the Add New E-mail Account dialog, enter the following information.

  2. Unmark the
    Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
    checkbox.
  3. Click the More Settings button and enter the following information in each tab.

    My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
    Mark the checkbox.

    Log on to incoming mail server before sending mail
    Click this option.

    Mark the checkbox.

    Use the following type of encrypted connection

    from the drop-down list.

    Leave a copy of messages on the server
    Unmark the checkbox.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click the Test Account Settings button.
    tip
    If Outlook prompts you to enter your login and password, you may need to set up your Gmail account to allow POP3 communications. To do this, log in to your Gmail account, click the Settings button, choose Settings, and then click the
    Forwarding and POP/IMAP
    link. Review the settings in the POP Download section.
  6. If you are prompted to accept a security certificate, click Yes.
  7. While testing account settings, Outlook will attempt to send an email message. Whether the message succeeds or fails, click Finish and continue completing the steps in this topic.
