Troubleshoot Digita Suite Database Backup Errors

You may encounter one of the following errors when using the database backup:
  • Appears to freeze during use on a Windows PC.
  • Hangs on the title screen or crashes during loading.
  • Fails to complete a backup and displays the ‘Could not backup database’ error message.
  • A password entry dialog box displays on launch.
Hangs on the title screen or crashes during loading
  1. Check that the
    SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)
    service is running:
    1. Type ‘
      services
      ’ in the
      Windows
      Search
      box
    2. Select the
      Services
      app from the search results
    3. In the
      Service Manager
      dialog box, scroll through the list to find
      SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)
    4. Ensure that the
      status
      of
      SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)
      is set to
      Running
      and close the dialog box. If there is no
      SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)
      service,
      Digita Database Backu
      p will not work. 
  2. Uninstall
    Digita Database Backup
    from the affected machine:
    1. Type ‘
      Control Panel
      ’ in the
      Windows
      Search
      box
    2. Select
      Control Panel
      from the search results
    3. Select the
      Uninstall a program
      link
    4. Select
      Digita Database Backup
      , then select the
      Uninstall
      button.
  3. In
    Windows
    File Explorer
    :
    1. Find and delete the file C:\ProgramData\Digita\
      Database Backup
    2. Find and delete the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Digita\
      Database Backup
      .(If the
      ProgramData
      folder does not appear in the
      C:\
      directory, select the
      View
      tab in
      File Explorer
      , then select the
      Hidden items
      check box.
  4. Create a fresh installation of
    Digita Database Backup
    , version.1.5:
    1. Select the following link to begin downloading a zip folder containing version 1.5 of Digita Database Backup (zip folder, 24.4 MB)
    2. Save the zip folder to a convenient location, extract the compressed files, double-click on
      setup.exe
      and follow the installation instructions.
  5. Update the fresh installation of version 1.5
    Digita Database Backup
    to version 2.0:
    1. Select the following link to download a zip folder containing version 2.0 of Digita Database Backup (zip folder, 37.2 MB)
    2. Save the zip folder to a convenient location, extract the compressed files, double-click on
      setup.exe
      , and follow the update instructions.
  6. Check the compatibility of your current version of
    Digita Database Backup
    with the version of
    SQL Server
    you have installed on you main machine/server:
    1. Digita Database Backup
      version 2.0 is compatible with
      SQL Server 2016
      to SQL Server 2019
    2. Digita Database Backup
      version 1.7 is
      compatible with
      SQL Server 2008R2
      to SQL Server 2014                                                  
    3. Digita Database Backup
      version 1.5 is
      not
      compatible with
      SQL Server 2016
      and newer versions.
Fails to complete a backup and displays the ‘Could not backup database’ error message
  1. If you are currently using version 1.5 of
    Digita Database Backup
    , take the following steps to update it to version 1.6:
    1. Select the following link to download a zip folder containing version 1.6 of Digita Database Backup (zip folder, 37.2 MB)
    2. Save the zip folder to a convenient location, extract the compressed files, double-click on
      setup.exe
      , and follow the update instructions.
  2. Ensure that there is sufficient space available on the drive where you are storing
    Digita
    database backups and archives.
A password entry box displays on launch
This an be caused by the
Windows
user not having administration permissions setup in
SQL Server
. Take the following steps to add administration permissions:
  1. Open
    SQL Server Management Studio
    .
  2. Login as the
    SA
    user.
  3. Select
    Security
    then
    Logins
    to expand these sections.
  4. Create a new login account for the
    Windows
    user with the password entry problem.
  5. Select the
    Server Roles
    page.
  6. Select the
    sysadmin
    check box.
Appears to freeze during use on a Windows PC
Digita Database Backup
may appear to freeze because a
Backup Scheduling
dialog box is hidden behind the main screen. Taking the following steps will resolve this problem.
  1. Launch
    Digita Database Backup
    .
  2. When it appears to freeze, right-click anywhere on the
    Notification
    bar
    at the bottom of your
    Windows
    Desktop (or press and hold
    Ctrl
    +
    Alt
    +
    Delete
    ) and select
    Task Manager
    from the pop-up menu.
  3. Find
    Digita Database Backup
    in the list of
    Apps
    (you may need to select the
    More details
    arrow to see the full list):
    1. Select the arrow to the left of
      Digita Database Backup
      to expand the list of processes
    2. Right-click on the
      Backup Scheduling
      process
    3. Select
      Switch to
      from the pop-up menu
    4. Immediately after selecting
      Switch to
      , press
      Alt
      +
      Spacebar
      .
  4. Select
    Move
    from the pop-up
    Window
    menu
    , then immediately use your keyboard arrow keys or mouse to move the hidden window into view.
  5. Press the
    Enter
    key to fix the window into view. (In order to prevent the issue reoccurring, select the
    Don't show this message again
    check box).
  6. Select the
    OK
    button to return to the
    Digita Database Backup
    main screen.
