Impersonating another user as a site administrator
Site administrators can proxy log in as another non-administrator user. They can view the site and navigate as if they are logged in as that user.
note
See here to proxy log in as another non-admin user.
Impersonation must be turned on at system admin level, via your Profile menu >
System admin
. Navigate to System settings
and search for Enable Impersonation
.
note
Please note that this setting is set to OFF as default.
Once you are impersonating your chosen user, you'll get a message confirming that you're impersonating the chosen user and warn you that the impersonation session will expire if you click or navigate away from the impersonated site.

This informs you that if you navigate away from the site you are viewing, the session expires.
You can:
- View the site as the user you have impersonated
- View the content and actions available to the user and take actions on their behalf
- All actions during the impersonation session are audited
- You are still logged in to your own account; content in windows outside the impersonation session reflects your own permissions
note
Please note that only the files module is supported in this release and contents from other sites will not be visible, as you are impersonating a user within your specific chosen site. If you navigate away from this site to another, your impersonation session ends.
