Reports: MTD and Self Assessment Submissions

View MTD and Self Assessment submission status across current and prior tax years, including deadlines, progress, filters, and firm-wide reporting summaries.

Overview

The
Reports
area gives you a view of all your firm’s
MTD
and
Self Assessment
submissions over the current and prior tax years.

Access the Reports page

  1. Open Workflow Manager and sign in as normal.
  2. Select the
    Reports
    icon (bar chart).
  3. The Reports Overview screen opens by default.

Understand the Overview tiles

At the top of the page, you’ll be able to view six tiles summarising your firm’s submissions for the selected filters:
  1. Rejected submissions
: The system shows the number of MTD/Self Assessment returns that HMRC has rejected and that need attention.
  2. Overdue submissions
: Number of MTD/Self Assessment submissions that have passed their statutory deadline and haven’t been successfully filed.
  3. Not submitted
: Number of MTD/Self Assessment submissions that haven’t yet been started.
  4. Awaiting HMRC response
: Number of MTD/Self Assessment returns sent to HMRC and still awaiting a final response.
  5. Accepted submissions
: This shows the number of MTD/Self Assessment returns that HMRC has accepted.
  6. All submissions
: All returns that need to be submitted for the selected period.
Use these tiles to get a quick sense of overall risk and workload. You can refine what they show using the
Filters
drawer.
note
The numbers shown always reflect the filters you have applied (MTD quarter, Self Assessment year, assigned staff).

Upcoming deadlines

This panel shows progress across key MTD and Self Assessment obligation periods for the current and prior tax year.
For each obligation period you’ll be able to view:
  • Submission deadline anchored to the live HMRC data.
  • A progress bar showing the percentage of submissions completed for that obligation period.
  • Shows a numerator and denominator, for example
    94% (94/100)
. This indicates how many submissions are complete out of the total for that obligation period.
  • A status such as Not open (0/100) where the submission window is not yet open.

Apply and clear filters
  • Once you’ve set your filters, select Apply to refresh the Overview.
  • To reset everything, use Clear filters at the top of the panel.
  • Select Cancel to close the panel without saving your changes.
Work with columns
  • Select a column header once to sort the rows in ascending order (for example, A–Z or oldest to newest).
  • Select the same column header again to switch to descending order.
  • Hold Ctrl and select a column header to clear the sort and return the grid to its default order.
  • This only changes your own view; it doesn’t affect the data for other users.
Pagination
When there are more submissions than fit on one page, use the controls at the bottom of the grid.
  • Previous / Next
: Move to the previous or next page of submissions.
  • Go to page
: Type a page number and select Go to jump straight to that page.
  • Items per page
: Choose how many submissions to show on each page (for example, 25, 50 or 100).
  • The text beside it shows the current range and total number of submissions. For example, Showing 1 to 25 of 250.
