Welcome to Thomson Reuters Making Tax Digital for Income Tax pilot

Making Tax Digital (MTD) access in Digita Personal Tax requires completing onboarding steps during the 2025/2026 pilot phase.
To access Making Tax Digital (MTD) in Digita Personal Tax, ensure you received a notification verifying you are ready to complete the onboarding steps. During the MTD pilot phase for 2025/2026, only customers added into the pilot program will receive the notification to proceed with these steps.
Before you begin, decide which clients you will submit quarterly returns for during this pilot phase. Register them on the HMRC website. For guidance on eligibility, refer to the MTD for Income Tax 2025 to 2026 testing phase eligibility guide.

Onboarding for MTD

Turn on your team’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) access in Thomson Reuters Digita Personal Tax and Onvio. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Set up users on Thomson Reuters Onvio

To access MTD, you'll need an Onvio account. If you don’t have an Onvio account, we'll contact you with a registration invitation.
note
The MTD-only Onvio access is complimentary for DPT customers.
New Onvio users
  • We'll send an invitation for Onvio registration to the person in your firm who signs Thomson Reuters order forms. When you're done with the instructions for account setup, you can sign up as the Onvio Firm Administrator.
  • The Onvio Firm Administrator can add additional team members who need access to MTD. To assist with this process, watch the instructional video detailing setting up user access.
  • Contact our Support line if you'd like to change your assigned Onvio Firm Administrator and for other questions.
Existing Onvio users
  • Your Onvio Firm Administrator will receive access to MTD before the April launch.
  • The Onvio Firm Administrator can then add users who need access to MTD features. To assist with this process, watch the instructional video that details setting up user access.
Digita Virtual Office (DVO) users with an existing Thomson Reuters account
  • Since you're already a DVO user with a Thomson Reuters account, we can link it to Onvio. Enter your Thomson Reuters account password and select
    Link Accounts
    .
Set up two-factor authentication (2FA)
To access Onvio, you must use two-factor authentication (2FA). When setting up 2FA, you can select phone calls, text message (SMS), biometrics, or an authentication app such as Auth0 Guardian. Review this document for more information.

    HMRC Firm Authorisation (MTD)
    tab.

. The system redirects you to the HMRC website.

Step 4: Set up Staff Permissions for MTD client data and submissions

  • Database Security
: Controls Digita Personal Tax user permissions to create, view, and delete MTD returns.
  • Onvio User Setup
: Controls Onvio user access to MTD.
As a Firm Administrator, you can manage specific MTD access levels for your staff members through the MTD Management Tool.
  1. Sign in to Digita Personal Tax using your Thomson Reuters Onvio credentials.
  2. Then go to
    Tools
    MTD Management Tool
    Staff Permissions

    Permission templates
    from the
    Manage templates
