Setting Digita Document Management to Onvio: unhandled exception error

Scenario

You may see the following error message after you chose Onvio Documents as the Document Management System for use by Digita Practice Management.
Error message
Unhandled exception.
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Causes

The likely cause of this error is that you're not running Digita Practice Management as Administrator and have not logged in as administrator after opening Digita Practice Management is open.

Solution

  1. Close Digita Practice Management.
  2. Right-click the Digita Practice Management icon on your desktop and select
    Run as administrator
     from the context menu.
  3. Select
    File
     then
    Log On As Administrator
    and enter your administrator’s credentials.
  4. Select
    Tools
    ,
    Options
    , then
    General Options
    .
  5. Select the
    Document Management
     tab.
  6. Clear the
    Use document management
     checkbox, then select
    OK
    .
  7. Close Digita Practice Management.
  8. Repeat steps 2-5 above, then tick the
    Use document management
     checkbox.
  9. Select
    Onvio Documents
     as the Plugin.
  10. Select
    Onvio Documents (https://onvio.co.uk/)
     as the Data location.
  11. Select
    OK
    .
