HTS Codes

American Tariff Fractions (US HTS Codes)

Valid HTS data must be maintained within the system.

Depending on how the system was configured during implementation, the
Update
 column may or may not appear in your system.

Adding a New HTS (US Subscription to Global Trade Content)

To add an HTS.
  1. Click
    Add Record
    . A pop-up will appear on the screen.
  2. Enter the desired HS Number and then click
    Load SPI Codes
    . Global Trade Content will then apply a SPI Code to the HS Number.
  3. Click Submit to proceed.
  4. Complete the entry, and then click “Insert”.

Adding a New HTS (No US Subscription to Global Trade Content)

To add an HTS.
  1. Click
    Add Record
    .
  2. Complete the entry and then click
    Insert
    .

Updating an HTS Number with Global Trade Content

The
Update
 column may be configured to appear on the
HTS Codes
 screen if your company has the US content subscription with ONESOURCE Global Trade Content.
Clicking the
Update
 button will automatically update the HTS information with up-to-date information from Global Trade Content.
After Content completes its validation, any potential validation errors will appear at the top of the screen. This will notify you if any modifications need to be made to the record. The modification process is described in the
Modifying an Existing HTS
 section of this User Guide.

Modifying an Existing HTS Number

To modify an existing HTS Number.
  1. Click
    Edit
    .
  2. Make all necessary changes, then click
    Update
    .

Deleting an Existing HTS Number

To delete an existing HTS Number.
  1. Click
    Delete
    .
  2. A confirmation pop-up will appear on the screen. Click
    OK
     to continue.

MX HS (HTS) Codes

The
MX HS Codes
 screen contains a grid that shows all available information in the system for the different Mexican Tariff HTS Numbers. This screen should be used to update, add, or remove Mexican HTS Numbers.
To add a new Mexican HS Number.
  1. Click
    Add Record
    .
  2. Enter all required information and then click
    Insert
    .
Modifying an Existing Mexican HTS Number
To modify an existing Mexican HTS Number.
  1. Choose a record from the grid and click its corresponding
    Edit
     button on the far left.
  2. Make any necessary changes and then click
    Update
    .
Deleting an Existing Mexican HTS Number
To delete an existing Mexican HTS Number.
  1. Choose a record from the grid and click its corresponding
    Delete
     button.
  2. A pop-up will appear on the screen, requesting confirmation of the deletion. Click
    OK
     to continue.

Extract Data

To extract a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet of the
MX HS Codes
 screen’s contents, click
Extract
.

***HTS Index NOTE***

ONESOURCE uses a term called “HTS Index.” This term applies to both the US HTS and any other country where a Commercial Transaction is made. For example, the Mexico table will include MXHTSIndex or AltHTSIndex”
The HTS Index is used to create a unique classification that can be assigned to a product or transaction; which allows having multiple transactions with different classifications for the same product. In most cases, this applies to changing tariff rates. In general terms, this code is formed from:
  • HS Number (usually without dots)
  • Export/Import Program (if applicable)
