Submanufacturer Process (Submaquila)

The sub-manufacturing (Submaquila) process is a complementary process. In cases where production capacity has been exceeded, every step of this process will take place outside of the IMMEX-certified company. Instead, the order is placed abroad and sent to a sub-manufacturing facility.
Since sub-manufacturing companies are not required to use virtual pedimentos or have an IMMEX program to provide services to IMMEX maquila companies, they can be a very viable option for maquiladora suppliers. Any IMMEX-registered company can register a service provider company to carry out the sub-manufacturing process.
To carry out this process:
  • The Secretary of Treasury must be notified by means of a notice of transfer of the inventory elements being sent to the sub-manufacturing company.
  • The original manufacturing (IMMEX) company must be authorized by the Secretariat of Economy.
  • The company carrying out the sub-manufacturing process must be an IMMEX registered Company.
  • Within IMMEX, this process can be found beneath the Submanufactura menu.
IMMEX allows companies to operate with:
  • Multiple invoices to receive the products from sub-manufacturing companies;
  • Partial or total consumption of the products;
  • Multi-level Bill of Materials (BOMs);
