Error: The field 'GainOrLoss' with value, data format is not correct

This e-file validation error occurs on California Schedule D-1 when the GainOrLoss field contains a dash character instead of a numeric value. The issue stems from "None" entries in the Allowable Suspended Ordinary Loss section.

  2. Drill down for
    Line 10
    .
  3. Find the
    ORDINARY INCOME SUMMARY
    work paper,
  4. Find the entry
    None
    in the activity grid, then right-click and select
    Related
    .
  5. Select
    ALLOWABLE SUSPENDED ORDINARY LOSS SCH D-1 - 3801
    and remove all entries for
    None
    .
  6. If "NONE" still shows on the form Line 10, select the field and use a Space to delete it.
  7. Do a full recompute and recreate the e-file.
