The header records for the 990, 1041, 1065, 1120, 5500, and 706 tax applications share an identical structure containing 6 data fields, including the taxpayer entity name, client code, file source, and Replacement Flag.

Field number 1 always appears in a Tax Return Import/Export export file but is optional in an import file. If you populate it in an import file, the application updates the specified tax return locator. If you don’t populate it, the application creates a new tax return database for the specified tax return type.
Field number 5 is not used by Tax Return Import/Export and is not imported into the target tax return database. This field is informational only.
