Thomson Reuters Announces Winners of 2015 StarMine Analyst Awards – Japan
Tokyo – Thomson Reuters today announced the winners of the 2015 StarMine Analyst Awards for Japan. This is the eleventh year that StarMine has presented its awards to the top stock analysts and brokerage firms in Japan.
StarMine, a leading provider of objective ratings of sell-side securities analysts, measures the performance of analysts based on the industry excess returns of their buy/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. The 2015 awards recognise the sell-side analysts who have shown outstanding performance either as stock pickers and/or earnings estimators based on the period between 1 July, 2014 and 30 June, 2015.
Raj Shah, head of StarMine sell-side research at Thomson Reuters, added, “The sell-side research environment remained as challenging. Market forces played a dominant influence on the direction and volatility of markets, making the analysts’ job as tough as ever. Analysts had to be responsive to the changes in the sorts of research and analysis requested by fund managers. Winning analysts were those that had the courage to go against market consensus. They had to differentiate their research compared to their peers and offer portfolio managers insight on the best places to invest. Congratulations to all of this year’s ranked analysts.”
Analysts are awarded prizes in three main categories: stock recommendation performance relative to specific industry benchmarks (“Stock Pickers”), accuracy in forecasting earnings as compared with peers (“Earnings Estimators”) and brokerage firms whose analysts win the most awards (“Most Award-Winning Brokers”).
