Version 2025.1.0 release notes

We released version 2025.1.0 on March 27, 2025 with the following changes.

General

  • We added the
    Activate Offline Mobile Authenticator
    option to the
    Help
menu. This feature gives you access to the locally installed application in offline mode using a preferred mobile device and a 2-factor authentication app. With this method, there's no longer a need to call support or ask a colleague for a temporary password. You can select
    Help
    then
    Activate Offline Mobile Authenticator
and pair a device using the QR code or setup key. After a successful pairing, open the application and sign in using a 6-digit code generated by the mobile app.
  • We updated the restore process in the
    Client Data Management Utility
screen to successfully restore clients with W-2 overrides.

Reports

We updated the 1099 Activity payroll report to include independent contractors. (Idea Incubator #6049)
note
If your firm has modified the predefined version of the report, the system won't replace your existing report with an updated version. If this is the case, you'll need to make the necessary changes to your customized report manually, or you'll need to select
File
then
Restore Default
to revert back to the predefined version.

Report Designer

We added the Mailing Address section of variables to the
Vendor Activity
then
1099 Activity
section of the variable tree.

Layout Designer

We removed the 2-D Bar Code variable from the
Tax Form
then
W-2
section and the
Tax Form
then
W-3
section of the variable tree for W-2 Form layouts.
note
UltraTax CS no longer supports the scanning of 2-D bar codes.

SECURE Act 2.0 changes

  • We renamed the
Client qualifies for increased deferral limit
    checkbox to
Increased deferral limit (SECURE Act 2.0)
    in the
    Payroll Items
    screen.
  • We updated the catch-up limits, for individuals aged 60-63, on the following retirement plans: (Idea Incubator #9101)
    • 401(k)
    • 403(b)
    • 457
    • Roth 401(k)
    • Roth 403(b)
    • Simple 408(p)
note
The higher catch-up limits only apply for individuals aged 60-63 if the following 2 conditions are both met:
  • The
    Birth date
    entered in the
    Personal
    tab of the
    Employees
screen results in the employee’s age being between 60 and 63 years old by 12/31 of the year of the check date.
  • The
    Do not apply catch-up limit
    checkbox isn't marked in the
    Payroll Items
    screen.

Payroll compliance

We replaced the Payroll Form and Filing Information portlet with the
Payroll Tax Form Information
portlet on the Home, Firm, Staff, and Client Dashboards. This portlet installs the State and federal payroll tax form information webpage within Help and Support, which allows publishing real-time updates of the tax form information without requiring a software update.
note
Additional resource links will be added into other portlets in a future update.

Federal

  • We added the ability to electronically file the following Form 1099 types, both original and corrected submissions, via IRIS (Information Return Intake System) for tax year 2024: (Idea Incubator #8437)

    • 1099-A
    • 1099-OID

    note

    • The charge to electronically file a Federal 1099 form sent via CS Connect is $14 per client per form type per tax year unless you're licensed for the 1099 Unlimited Electronic Filing Module.
    • If the client’s original Federal 1099 form for a specified tax year is electronically filed through Accounting CS, there's not an additional charge for filing the corresponding Corrected 1099 form.
