Carryforward Schedule for Determining Partner’s Amount at Risk

This template tracks a partner’s amount at risk with respect to the partnership.  It is not an all-inclusive analysis of items that might affect a partner’s amount at risk.

Entering Information

All of the information needed to produce the computation is entered on the Input worksheet.  The yellow highlighted cells are calculated fields, and no data should be entered in these cells.  Any gray cells are not calculated fields, but data should not be entered in these cells.

Enter the following information:

  • Current tax year (Enter the four-digit tax year.)
  • First year for at-risk (Enter the first year for the carryforward schedule.  The program will determine the amount at-risk for the current year and the prior 10 years [maximum].)
  • At risk amount at the end of the previous tax year
  • Cash contributions
  • Adjusted basis of contributed property (Enter the adjusted basis to the partner of the property contributed to the partnership.)
  • Debt on above contributed property (Enter the amount of debt encumbering the property for which the partner is not personally liable.)
  • Partnership income or gain allocable to the partner
  • Partnership recourse loans (Check each box “Yes” or “No” in response to the questions asked in item 6.  If all boxes are answered “Yes,” the program will direct you to the appropriate cell to enter the amount of current-year additions to such loans and any current year repayments to such loans.  If any questions are answered "No," the program automatically proceeds to the next input item.)
  • Partnership Non-recourse loans (To determine if partnership Non-recourse loans qualify as Non-recourse financing, check each box “Yes” or “No” in response to the questions asked in item 7.  If all boxes are answered “Yes,” the program will direct you to the appropriate cell to enter the amount of current-year additions to such loans, plus any current year repayments to such loans.  If any questions are answered "No," the program proceeds to the next input item automatically.)
  • Current year additions to Non-recourse loans made by the partner to the partnership (Enter current-year additions to the Non-recourse partnership debt under which the personal liability of the partner meets all the requirements of a recourse loan.)
  • FMV of property pledged as security for a partnership Non-recourse loan (Enter the fair market value (FMV) of the property, not used in the at-risk activity, that has been pledged by the partner during the current year as security for a partnership Non-recourse loan, the proceeds of which will be used in the activity.)
  • Current year repayments to partnership Non-recourse loans secured by the FMV of the property
  • Cash distributions from the partnership
  • Property distributions from the partnership (Enter the property distributions to the extent of the property's adjusted basis to the partner.)
  • Any debt on property distributed from the partnership (Enter any debt encumbering the distributed property.)
  • Proceeds of any loan borrowed by the partner or the partnership for use outside the at-risk activity but secured by property used in the activity
  • Partnership losses allocable to the partner
Note: If the total amount at risk at the end of year is negative, the current-year loss is limited and gain must be recognized.
