Frequently Asked Questions

This section houses some of our most frequently asked questions:

1. How do I default a date question to today's date?

Use the Today function in the default area of the variable. More on date functions can be found under Date Functions (the Today function is described under Date General Functions)

2. Why do more warnings appear in the issues list when I Test or Upload the questionnaire?

As you type in the document,
Contract Express Author
is using Scan-as-you-type technology to scan the document for errors in the markup such as mismatched brackets and undefined variables. You can force a manual scan by clicking on the blue manual scan button:
Manual scan icon.
On uploading a template,
Contract Express Author
performs a more detailed scan called a Usage Check which will pick up relevance issues such as incorrect ordering on the Questionnaire. To force this more detailed scan, click on the Usage Check button:
Usage check icon.
Because
Contract Express Author
performs a usage analysis on uploading the template, this may display more warnings that are not picked up with the manual scan. See the Troubleshooting section for more details on iterating though errors and warnings.

3. Why does the Test button bring up a username and password box?

This may happen if you are uploading to an external Contract Express site or one that is not in your domain. You will have been supplied with a username and password to fill in this area. Note that is not likely to be the same as the one you usually log in with.

4. Why does Test Questionnaire or Upload seem to stall and does not finish?

Sometimes the dialogue boxes within Word do not appear in the correct order - the Test button may be waiting for input from you (such as a username and password, or client-specific dialogue boxes you may run) but the box may be underneath the Upload progress box.
Try moving the progress box out of the way or hold down the Alt key and use the Tab key to cycle through the open windows until you reach the one requiring input.
