Troubleshoot bookmark barcode errors in GoFileRoom

Scenario

When you scan documents into GoFileRoom using bookmark separator barcodes, the scanning utility may not recognize the bookmark barcodes, or it may mistakenly identify other non-GoFileRoom barcodes as bookmark separator barcodes.

Solutions

Fix unrecognized bookmark barcodes
Try any of these recommended solutions to fix the barcode.
  • Clean the scanner glass thoroughly, using the method recommended by the manufacturer, to make sure there aren't any spots that distort the scanned barcode. You may want to do this as often as once per week.
  • Make sure that you're using original barcode separator sheets that haven't been copied or used for other documents.
  • Make sure that your printer isn't low on toner.
  • Don't print bookmark barcodes on dark paper. White paper works best.
  • Print new bookmark separators for these documents.
  • Adjust the margins to a setting other than the standard 0.75" (such as 0.50" and 0.25"). To change margins, select
    File
    ,
    Page Setup
, then adjust the values in the
    Margins
    section.
  • Feed the barcodes separator sheets into the scanner upside-down so that barcodes appear on the right-hand side in Adobe Acrobat.
  • Temporarily increase the DPI settings on the scanner.
  • Use Kofax VRS, PaperStream, or another virtual rescan software application to adjust the brightness and clarity of the scans.
Overwrite non-GoFileRoom barcodes
  • Use a marker to overwrite the non-GoFileRoom barcode prior to scanning. If this isn't possible, make a copy of the page and then mark up the copy.
