F7004-904-01 e-file error

Error

Form 7004, the tax year ending date (TaxPeriodEndDt specified in the Return Header) must match the data in the e-file database unless one of the checkboxes in Line 5b - "Initial Return", "Final Return" or "Consolidated return to be filed" is checked. (value YYYY-MM-DD, rule F7004-904-01).

Cause

This error occurs because the
Tax period end date
, the
Return type
, or the
EIN
within the IRS' database don't match the information in the electronic file. For example, the return may be for a calendar year end, 12/31/YY, but the IRS' database shows the client's year end as a fiscal year end, 06/30/YY.

Solution

  1. Verify the
    Tax period end date
    ,
    Return type
    , and
    EIN
    are correct.
  2. If these are correct, contact the IRS e-Help Desk at 866-255-0654 and verify what they have on their record.
