Tax Period Beginning Date default is 01/01/XXXX unless the Fiscal Tax Year and/or the 52/53-week indicator box is checked. If return is a short-year return, short-year information is be entered at Organizer/States/Alabama/Privilege Tax/Tax Computation/Short-year Returns. Any short-year return that has 12/31/XX as the year-end must be paper-filed per state guidance.
This happens when the default Tax Period Beginning Date is set to 01/01/

In cases where the return is for a short year, the specific short year information must be entered under the Alabama Privilege Tax section. Furthermore, any short-year return that has a year-end of 12/31/XX must be paper-filed in accordance with state guidance.
Solution
If the client wants the CPT determination dates to reflect a full calendar year 01/01/

    Organizer
    , select
    General Information
    , and
    Basic Return Information
    .
  2. In the
    Entity Information
    tab, go to the
    Dates
    section and remove the Fiscal Year Beginning and Ending dates.
