Sign 990 e-file

Exempt organization federal tax returns e-filed by tax practitioners may be signed electronically using a personal identification number (PIN). You may use either the practitioner PIN method or Form 8453-EO.
PIN options can be selected in
Organizer
,
E-file
,
Return
, and then
Signature Authorization
.
  1. On the
    Signature Authorization
    screen, select one of these options:
    1. Form 8879-TE - Practitioner PIN
      - With this option, the taxpayer and ERO will each select a PIN (or use the auto-generate option) to sign the return. As the ERO, you'll complete Form 8879-EO and retain it for 3 years.
    2. Form 8453-TE - scanned signature document
      - With this option, the ERO completes and prints Form 8453-EO. The ERO has all required parties sign the form, scans it into a PDF document, and attaches it as a binary attachment. The name of the PDF file is limited to 23 characters.
  2. If you chose to use the practitioner PIN, indicate who entered the PIN: ERO or Officer. You can also select to generate the PINs.
  3. And lastly, enter the PINs.
