About practice groups

Every time a matter is created a practice group must be associated with the matter. This association between the practice group and each matter drives several important features of Tracker:
  • Because a practice group is selected for each matter, users can retrieve a list of matters assigned to a particular practice group. Similarly, reports can be generated for just a particular practice group, or a report could be generated comparing totals across all practice groups.
  • A regular company user has access to a matter only if the user has been invited to be a matter participant for the matter (Co. Sys. Admin users have access to all matters by virtue of being a system administrator). However, you can grant access to all matters in a particular practice group, or grant access to reports for a particular practice group.
  • Because a practice group is selected for each matter, users can retrieve a list of matters assigned to a particular practice group. Similarly, reports can be generated for just a particular practice group, or a report could be generated comparing totals across all practice groups.
You can create up to 4 tiers below the top-level practice group (which is called "All Practice Groups"). Each practice group can have up to 75 subunits below the practice group. For example, you can create 75 subunits below the top-level practice group, and then each of those practice groups can have 75 subunits below them, etc.
