Optional sections

You can make a section optional, allowing the preparer to decide whether to include or exclude the text for each return. By doing this, you control the wording and can add field references or conditions. The preparer will see the text in the locator and can choose to include or exclude it for each return.
To set up an optional section:
  1. Select the section header.
  2. On the
    Section Properties
    window, toggle the
    Preparer Option
    to
    On
    .
  3. To set the default status for the optional paragraph, use the
    Checked for preparer
    check box next to
    Preparer Option
    .
    1. Check the box to include the paragraph by default, allowing the preparer to exclude it if desired.
    2. Uncheck the box to exclude the paragraph by default, allowing the preparer to include it if needed.
  4. The 3rd check box on the preparer option is to have this optional section display in the Administrative Preview. Checking the box next to
    Show preview data
    will make the section contents display in the Administrative Preview.
  5. A section with a condition or one made optional will have an icon to the left of the header bar (the icon is the same for inserting a condition).
