Asset Sourcing Workpaper and Paste Special for Tax Year 2011 and Later
To facilitate the copy and paste of apportionment base codes and/or sourcing formulae between binders in the Asset Sourcing Workpaper, a Paste Special feature has been implemented. With the conventional paste functionality, data is copied from the source binder and pasted to the target binder without regard to the account or source code in the source binder. Therefore, the information may not line up with the proper international account and/or source code due to view differences between the binders. Paste Special will paste the appropriate copied data from the source binder to a different (target) binder retaining the international account and/or source code assignments.
To use Paste Special, the source binder and the target binder must have the same International Chart of Accounts. This means that to enable the Paste Special in the target binder, the source binder and the target binder must have the same income tax year and the same International Summary Chart selected on the Binder Properties screen.

You cannot use Paste Special (and it will never be active) within the source binder as no change in the information would occur after the Paste Special. Use the conventional Paste commands for copy and paste of data within a given binder.
Using Paste Special
- In the source binder (the binder with the data to be copied from), select a contiguous range of cells to copy. This range can include only apportionment base codes, only source code formulae, or a combination of apportionment base codes and source code formulae. The copy range can be partially or fully inclusive of the asset sourcing workpaper. No matter what range you select, only relevant data is copied.
- For sourcing, only formulae in the contiguous range selected is copied. Null (empty) cells and numerical amounts in the range selected are not copied.
- For apportionment base codes, both apportionment base codes and null (empty) cells in the contiguous apportionment base code range selected are copied.
- To complete the asset sourcing workpaper range selected for copy in the source binder
- Select the range to copy in the source binder.
- On the Asset Sourcing Workpaper menu, clickCopyor pressCtrl-Cto copy the data to an internal clipboard.
- Close the source binder.
- Open the Asset Sourcing Workpaper in the target binder (the binder where you a copying the data). ThePasteicon is active.
- ClickPasteand select one of thePaste Special Formula / Base Codeoptions:Add and Replace EntriesorReplace ALL Entries.

There is no need to place focus on a particular cell or row in the asset sourcing workpaper for the Paste Special feature.
Paste Special Formula/Base Code: Add and Replace Entries
For a sourcing formula copied from a range in the source binder, the related international account / source code in the target binder is updated with this formula. Since the source codes contained in a sourcing chart are never changed by the Paste Special command:
- If the source code with the formula is in the sourcing chart of the source binder but not in the sourcing chart of the target binder, an additional source code row is created in the target binder.
- If the source code with a formula is not in the sourcing chart of the source binder (an additional source code row) but is in the sourcing chart in the target binder, the formula is copied to the related source code column in the target binder (an additional source code row is not created).
- Only one [BAL] formula can exist for a given international account. If the result of the Paste Special creates multiple [BAL] formulae for an international account, the [BAL] formulae existing before the Paste Special is automatically deleted.
For an apportionment base code copied from a range in the source binder, the related international account in the target binder is updated with this base code. Apportionment base code columns 1, 2, and 3 in the source binder paste to apportionment base code columns (1, 2, and 3) in the target binder. Both apportionment base codes and null (empty) cells included in the copy range in the source binder paste into the target binder.
Paste Special Formula/Base Code: Replace All Entries
For a sourcing formula copied from a range in the source binder, all sourcing (including additional source codes) is deleted in related international account (those in the selected range) in the target binder and replaced with the formulae copied from the source binder. Since the source codes contained in a sourcing chart are never changed by the Paste Special command:
- If the source code with the formula is in the sourcing chart in the source binder but not in the sourcing chart in the target binder, an additional source code is created in the target binder.
- If the source code with the formula is not in the sourcing chart in the source binder (an additional source code row) but is in the sourcing chart in the target binder, the formula is copied to the related source code column in the target binder (an additional source code row is not created).
For an apportionment base code copied from a range in the source binder, all base codes are deleted in the related international account (those in the selected range) in the target binder and replaced with the apportionment base code(s) copied from the source binder. Apportionment base code columns 1, 2, and 3 in the source binder paste to apportionment base code columns 1, 2, and 3, respectively, in the target binder. Both apportionment base codes and null (empty) cells included in the copy range paste into the target binder.
