Integrate firm with other solutions

Practice CS integrates with other CS Professional Suite applications. Examples of Integration include:
  • Populating client information from UltraTax CS or Creative Solutions Accounting
  • Importing Invoices from UltraTax CS or Creative Solutions Accounting
  • Receiving Instructions from UltraTax to mark a project completed or on extension
Practice CS lets you have multiple databases called
Firms
. Integration can only be performed with 1 database at a time. The way you indicate to Practice CS which database you want to integrate with other applications is by:
  1. Select
    Setup
    then
    Firm
    .
  2. Select the
    Preferences tab
    .
  3. Select the
    Integrate this Firm with other solutions
    checkbox.
  4. Select
    Enter
    .
In some circumstances, after checking
Integrate this Firm with other solutions
, the box won’t remain checked and integration functions in which data is being accepted into Practice CS won’t work.
The most common reason why the
Integrate this Firm with other solutions
checkbox won’t remain checked is because the file that contains the name of the database that has that option checked is missing.
The name of the file is
IntegrationSettings.xml
and should be found in the
X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data\Data
folder (where X is the drive letter of the network drive on which the Practice CS Shared Files are installed).
Do the following to restore this file (all the following steps are performed at the server on which your database resides):
  1. Go to
    Control Panel \ Programs and Features
    (Windows Server 2008) or
    Control Panel \ Add or Remove Programs
    (Windows Server 2003).
  2. Uninstall
    Practice CS Shared Files
    .
  3. Find the previously downloaded file, extract folder, or CD containing the latest version of Practice CS. The downloaded file is named
    PracticeCSDownload.exe
    . This extract folder is named
    Practice CS <version> Download.
    .
  4. Run the Practice CS network Installation just as you did when you first installed or performed the last update.
  5. Go to
    X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data\Data
    and verify the
    IntegrationSettings.xml
    file is present.
  6. Open Practice CS, go to
    Setup
    ,
    Firm
    , then
    Preferences
    and mark the checkbox for
    Integrate this Firm with other solutions
    .
  7. Close Practice CS.
  8. Reopen Practice CS and verify that
    Integrate this Firm with other solutions
    is still checked.
