helps you make calculations in SPbinder and track your calculations with references. You can view the results in the
Calculator Tapes
panel, add them to a page as a sticky note, and include them in the printed copy of the binder.
Calculator
To open
Calculator
, go to the
Annotate toolbar
, then select
Calculator
(under the
Workpaper Tools
section).

You can select
ANNOTATE
to show/hide the annotation toolbar.
SurePrep Calculator
will open.
The SurePrep Calculator consists of the following functions:

OCR Referencing for Amounts
: Select this icon to reference the amount directly from the source document using the OCR feature.
When you select the
OCR
icon, the focus will change to the document in the Document Viewer. Drag the mouse pointer over the amounts for which you want to add tape.
If OCR reads the data correctly, then the amounts captured will be added in the SurePrep calculator under the input column with default OP as
+
. You can also enter the amounts manually.
note
Troubleshoot the OCR tool if it is not functioning on your workstation.
If OCR is not certain about the data read, then a pop-up will display giving you an option to choose the OCR Value or Suggested Value.
The fields for
OCR Value
and
Suggested Value
are editable. To edit and choose either of these fields, select
OK
.
The OCR referencing tool captures numeric values only. If you select an option that contains text, a message stating
Invalid Amount. Only numeric value allowed
will be displayed.
When you are done adding amounts, select the
Create Tape
button on the Calculator.
note
The
Create Tape
button will be turned on only when you enter an amount in the calculator.
Copy Tape to Image
:
The
Copy Tape to Image
icon lets you copy the contents of the tape on to a new sticky note and places it on the top-right corner to the document image. You can also use the Ctrl + I shortcut key on the keyboard.
Copy Tape to Clipboard
:
This option lets you copy tape information to the clipboard.
Select the
Copy Tape To Clipboard
icon or press
Ctrl+C
to select and copy the entire tape information to the clipboard. This lets you paste it outside of the SPbinder if you want. You can also select a row first and then press
Ctrl+C
to copy the single row.
Select the
Copy Tape to Clipboard
icon
.
Place a
Sticky Note
on your work paper, press
Ctrl + V
, or right-click then select
Paste
on the context menu.
This will paste your Calculator Tape into the sticky note.

This is not used to paste data into SPbinder. However, you can drop a reference as follows.
Undo
: You can undo recent actions one at a time.
Redo
: Once several actions have been undone, the Redo feature will be available and you can select Redo.
Insert Row (Alt + I)
: You can insert a blank row in tape above the cursor position.
Delete Row (Alt + D)
: You can delete a row from the tape from the cursor position.
Always on Top (Ctrl + T)
: You can keep the calculator on top of other applications.
Decrease decimal places
: It displays less precise values by showing fewer decimal places.
Floating
: You can add the desired number of digits after decimal point using this feature.
Increase decimal places
: It displays more precise values by showing more decimal places.
Auto Decimal
: Automatically inserts the decimal character with the specified number of decimal places.
Mode
: You can select one of the 2 modes '10KEY' and 'REGULAR' for calculations.
REGULAR
: This is the mode where the sign is entered before the number (that is, 5 - 3 = 2).
10KEY
: This is the mode where the sign is entered after the number (that is, 5 + 3 - = 2).

: You can view keyboard shortcut keys.
Numeric Display & Keypad
Numeric display
: It will help you to view the display of inputs typed from the keypad and show calculation results. By default '0' will be displayed in the display. As per your selection of the decimal places, it will show the decimal point after the number in the Numeric display. The maximum number limit in the numeric display area is 14.
Keypad buttons
: The Keypad buttons consist of
numeric buttons

operator buttons

clear buttons
.
Numeric buttons
: It includes numbers from 0 – 9, Double zeros - 00, Triple zeros - 000, and decimal point “.” buttons.
Operator buttons
: Addition (+) which adds two or more numbers, subtraction (-) which subtract two or more numbers, multiplication (x) which multiplies two or more numbers, division (÷) which divides two or more numbers; and equals (=) which shows the results of the previously mentioned operators.
Clear buttons
: It includes the Backspace button (Back), Clear Entry (CE) which clears the numeric display only, and Clear (C) which clears all incomplete calculations entered by the user in tape and Clear Tape (CT) buttons which clear the tape information. To clear all contents in the calculator tape, select
CT
(Clear Tape). On the
SurePrep Calculator
window, select
Yes
, to clear all the contents in the tape. Select
No
to close without making any changes.
Function buttons
: This includes Function buttons like Percent (%) which calculates a percentage of the previously entered number; Grand Total (GT) which shows the total of two or more sets of calculations; and Average (A) which shows the average of two or more numbers.
Memory buttons
: This includes memory buttons like Memory Clear (MC) that clears the number stored in memory, Memory Recall (MR) that recalls the number stored in memory and inserts it into the number display, Memory Store (MS) that stores the calculator’s current value in memory, Subtract from Memory (M-) that subtracts the calculator’s current value from the number in memory, and Add to Memory (M+) that adds the calculator’s current value to the number in memory.
Create Tape
Before you can create a tape, you need to have at least 1 cross-reference added to the page. Use the OCR button to scan the values you want to add.
Tape
: In this section, there is an option to input the text and numbers. It consists of the following parts:
Show position column
: Displays the serial number of each row for each set of calculations. It gets rearranged when you press the
Enter
key to begin entering the next set of calculations. You can select the show position column to select the entire row.
Text
: This lets you write text. The default alignment of text is left.
Input
: This accepts numeric values. Positive numbers will be displayed in Black while negative numbers will be displayed in Red. The default alignment of data will be right.
OP
: This displays Operator signs (that is, +,-,* and /). The default alignment of Op will be right. All rows/column in the TAPE area are adjustable to the extent of the Tape area available. You can extend both the rows and columns.
You can modify/delete calculations entered on the tape by placing the cursor in the field. After editing the data, the Grand Total value will automatically get calculated per the changes done. The Grand Total value is not editable.
It will also let you delete the last data entered by pressing
ESC
.
Once you are done with the calculation, select
Create Tape
.
The calculator window will close and the tape created will be displayed in the Calculator Tapes panel.
The amounts captured will have a cross-reference link to the right side of the value on the source document. This cross-reference shows the tape number, while the cross-reference on the Calculator Tapes panel will show the page number.
You can select the page number in the Calculator Tapes to highlight the particular cross-reference on the source document.
Note: Manually entered amounts won’t have cross-references and page numbers. You will have to select the + sign in the OP column and place the cross-reference on the document.
Point to the cross-reference on the source document will display the
Created by and on
details.
You can add a name to the tape. To add a name, select the
Edit Tape Name
icon and enter a name.
Press
Tab
or
Enter
to save the Tape name. The name added will be seen in the dropdown. You can also go to different tapes by selecting on the tape names from the dropdown.
To discard the change while in edit mode, press
Esc
.
Select the
Calculator
icon to open a new instance of the calculator from the Calculator Panel.
You can select the
Edit Tape
icon to add amounts to an existing tape.
When you select the
Edit Tape
icon that particular tape will open for editing and the Calculator Tapes panel will show the following message:
The new calculations will be added at the bottom of the last calculations. Enter a description in the
Text
column if desired.
If you want to insert the Grand Total of the amounts captured on the source document, select the
GT
button on the calculator.
Once the changes are done, select
Update Tape
.
The addition will be displayed in the Calculator Tapes panel.
You can drop the Summary/Grand Total amount on the source document with a reference. To do so, select the
Add Cross Reference
icon.
After selecting the icon, select in the source document to add a reference.
To reference the total amount, select the reference in the
Forms
tab then select the tape box. The amount from the tape will be automatically populated in the forms field.
note
When the calculator tape total is deleted, the reference field linked to it in the Form tab will become blank.
You can add as many tapes as required in the Calculator Panel. A navigation toolbar is provided at the bottom of the calculator tape.
To delete any cross-reference, right click the cross-reference, then select
Delete
.
The cross-reference will be deleted from the source document. The page number in the Calculator Tapes panel will change to sign.
The following options appear when you right-click the tape area:

A notification window appears if there is an unsaved tape when you attempt to close the calculator.
Select
Yes
to close the calculator without saving the tape.
Select
No
to close the caution window, and continue using the calculator.
To delete the Calculator tape, select the
Delete Tape
icon in the Calculator Tape Panel.
A window will appear for confirmation. Select
Yes
to delete the calculator tape.
Note: If you have inserted a GT reference on the source document, it will also get deleted as soon as the tape is deleted. You have to manually delete the reference if it is placed on the
Form
tab.
If there is an existing unsaved tape when you select the
Edit tape
icon, then you will see a notification message stating whether you want to override the existing tape in the calculator.
Select
Yes
to override the existing calculation tape in the calculator and open the tape that you need to edit.
Select
No
to close the caution message and you will be able to continue to use the calculator.
When you open the Calculator Tapes panel, the last viewed tape will be displayed by default.
In case you erroneously select the button in the
SPbinder Calculator
, a message gets displayed.
Are you sure you want to close the SPbinder Calculator
. Select
Yes
to close the SPbinder Calculator. Select
No
to close the confirmation window.
Calculator tapes can be printed in DreamWorkpapers and SPbinder PDF.
All the tapes created in the binder will appear in a separate node
Calculator Tapes
, in the
Bookmarks
section. The tapes entered in the binder will be displayed one after the other.
Calculator Tapes Dropdown
There is a dropdown button on Calculator Tapes to select Annotate. By selecting this option your annotations bar will reappear in the binder.
