F8962-060 e-file error

If Form 8962, 'StartMonthNumberCd' has a value in 'AltCalcForMarriagePrimaryGrp' or 'AltCalcForMarriageSpouseGrp', then 'MonthCd' in 'MonthlyPTCCalculationGrp' must not be prior to earliest 'StartMonthNumberCd'. (rule F8962-060)
You'll get this error message if the end month for Form 8962, Alternative Calculation for Year of Marriage, is earlier than the start month for the taxpayer or spouse.

Solution

  1. Go to the PTC screen in the Health Care folder.
  2. Review and correct the start month and end month for the taxpayer and spouse in
Alternative Calculation for Year of Marriage
    .
    • The start month is the 1st month the taxpayer purchased insurance through the Marketplace.
    • The end month is the month of the marriage.
  3. Recreate and retransmit the return.
It's common to receive rejection F8962-050 at the same time as this error message. To resolve the F8962-050 rejection, review the
Alternative family size
field. If the taxpayer had Marketplace insurance before the marriage, enter their family size before marriage. If the spouse had Marketplace insurance before the marriage, enter their family size before the marriage. If both the taxpayer and spouse had Marketplace insurance before the marriage, enter each individual's family size before marriage.
