Export 1040 client data into the Bureau of National Affairs (BNA) Income Tax Planner

Follow these steps to export an UltraTax/1040 client's data into the BNA Income Tax Planner.
  1. In UltraTax CS, select
    File
    , then
    Open Client
to open the 1040 client whose data you want to export into the BNA Income Tax Planner.
  2. From the Utilities menu, select
    Third Party
    , then
    BNA (Export)
    to open the
    BNA Export
    window.
    note
You must be in the Input Screen Data Entry or Form View for the
    BNA (Export)
    command to be available.
  3. If this is the 1st time you are exporting data into BNA or if the location displayed in the
    BNA client data location
field is not correct, you must specify or change the drive and/or path for data export.
  4. Select the
    Export
button to export the UltraTax/1040 client's data into BNA.
    note
    • Due to differences between UltraTax CS and BNA, certain items don’t transfer from UltraTax/1040, and others may require modifications in BNA after they transfer.
    • If the client already exists in BNA, UltraTax CS displays a message asking you to confirm that you want to overwrite the existing client data.
    • If the
      BNA (Export)
button is not available in the Utilities menu, the following issues may exist.
      • You may be in Organizer view, rather than input screen view. To switch to the input screen view, select
        View
        ,
        Input Screen
, then attempt to export again.
      • The license file required for the export may be missing. Verify that the
        IyBNname.dat
        (where
        Y
is the year of the application) license file is in
        X:\WinCSI\Licenses
        (where
        X
in the drive where the application is installed). If you don’t have this license file, contact Customer Service at 800.968.0600 to purchase the application bridge.
      • Verify that the BNS Bridge has been installed.
Support: Beginning with 2008 UltraTax CS the BNA bridge function is installed with 1040, and the menu item in UltraTax CS is triggered by the xyBNname.dat license file. Prior versions have a checkbox in UltraTax CS Product Selection window to select for installation.
