Before you merge individual clients

You can merge individual clients for a married filing joint return or domestic partnership return. You can also recombine clients. Before you start the merge, you should be aware of several important things.
  • You can only add state tax information after you merge 2 clients. Any existing state information will be lost.
  • Federal client Organizer data and assets transfer to the joint client. State Organizer and asset data doesn't.
  • You can send Organizers to the taxpayer and spouse if you have an UltraTax CS Client Organizer license. Complete the merge process after you receive the client Organizers and enter all federal data.
  • If taxpayer or spouse information changes after the merge, they can be recombined to overwrite the joint client.
  • Data in amount fields in single-unit input screens are combined and transferred to the joint client.
  • Non-financial data in single-unit input screens transfers only from the taxpayer.
  • Data in single-unit input screens transfers from both taxpayer and spouse clients. Taxpayer items appear first, then spouse items.
  • All data in multiple-unit input screens transfers to the joint client.
