Protection Plus Audit Assistance

Protection Plus Audit Assistance is available with UltraTax CS. Protection Plus provides audit defense and notice response services for your individual clients. When you register for Protection Plus:
  • You outsource audit defense and notice response to a team of specialists.
  • Choose protection for individual returns.
  • Automatically enroll clients when you file tax returns.
  • Protection Plus handles enrollment and billing.

Cost and availability

Protection Plus audit defense coverage is $10 per the following individual returns:
  • Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return
  • Form 1040SR, U.S. Tax Return for Seniors
  • Form 1040NR, U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return
Returns that don't qualify for coverage:
  • Form 1040SS, U.S. Self-Employment Tax Return
  • FinCEN Form 114, Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR)
  • Individual returns filed after the annual October extension deadline. For example, for tax year 2023 returns filed in 2024, this means returns filed after 10/15/24 wouldn’t qualify for audit assistance.

Enroll and set up UltraTax CS

To register for Protection Plus, call 866.942.8348 or go to new.taxprotectionplus.com/ultratax-registration. You'll need an Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN) to enroll.
Once you complete the enrollment process with Protection Plus:
  1. In UltraTax CS, go to the
    Setup
     menu and select
    1040 Individual
    .
  2. On the
    Federal
     tab, select
    Protection Plus
  3. Select the
    Use Protection Plus Audit Assistance coverage ($ Chargeable)
     checkbox.
  4. Select
    Validate
     to retrieve enrollment status.
  5. Select
    OK
    , then
    OK
     again to save your changes.
Once you're enrolled in Protection Plus Audit Assistance, Thomson Reuters gives a count of qualifying tax returns to Protection Plus. Protection Plus uses that count to reconcile charges to the EFIN holder enrolled in the Audit Assistance program.
