Filing status (Force)
If you are using Tax Projection Worksheet amounts for calculations, use this field to override the filing status on the 1040 or TPW screens.
Total number of jobs currently employed for
Enter the number of jobs with which the taxpayer and spouse are currently employed. For example, if each person has 1 job, enter

in each field. UltraTax CS uses this information to calculate Form W-4 and its applicable worksheets.
Claim exemption from withholding for next year
UltraTax CS will clear Steps 2, 3, 4(a), and 4(b) of Form W-4 and print the literal "Exempt" on Form W-4, under Step 4(c).

Total number of children eligible for child tax credit (Force)
UltraTax CS defaults to the number of children who qualify for the child tax credit in the current year. Use this field to override the number of children eligible for the child tax credit in Step 3.
Total number of eligible dependents (not including taxpayer or spouse) (Force)
Use this field to override the number of dependents used in the calculation for the Credit for other dependents in Step 3.
Additional withholding amount per pay period (Force)
Use this field to override the calculated amount on Form W-4, Step 4(c).
Use Tax Projection Worksheet amounts
When this field is marked, UltraTax CS uses the amounts you entered in the TPW and TPW-2 screens. If you didn't enter data in either Tax Projection Worksheet screen, UltraTax CS defaults to the current-year credits, except the following:
Education Credit
Adoption Credit
Credit for Prior Year Minimum Tax
If you want to include the listed credits in the tax projection calculation, enter an amount in the
Total estimated tax credits (Force)
field in the W4 screen.

When using the Tax Projection Worksheet amounts, UltraTax CS defaults to the current-year wages to calculate Multiple Jobs Worksheet and W-4 Withholding Worksheet unless the taxpayer's and/or spouse's wages are entered in the TPW screen.

Select the employer for which you want to print Form W-4. Leave this field blank if you want to complete Form W-4 for a new employer.

If you're using the W-4 Withholding Worksheet to project income tax withheld, complete a Form W-4 for each job to accurately calculate total withholding.
Amount of wages (Force)
UltraTax CS uses wage amounts entered in the TPW screen if

Payroll period
Select the pay period (Semiannually, Quarterly, Monthly, Semimonthly, Biweekly, Weekly, Daily) for this job. UltraTax CS uses this information to calculate the projected withholding on the W-4 Withholding Worksheet. This field is mandatory.

If your pay period isn't one of the options, select the option closest to your pay period, but note that the withholding calculation won't be as accurate.
Number of pay periods remaining in 2024
Enter the number of pay periods remaining in the calendar year for the employer for whom the Form W-4 is being completed. For example, if this form is being completed in December, 2023, and the taxpayer is paid bi-weekly, there are 26 pay periods remaining. Therefore, enter

in this field.
2024 withholding to date
Enter the amount withheld from wages for this job up to the current date. UltraTax CS uses this information to calculate the total projected withholding on the W-4 Withholding Worksheet.
2024 withholding from other sources
Enter the total expected withholding from sources other than wages, such as withholding reported on Form 1099-R. Do not include estimated tax payments.
Suppress printing of Form W-4
Enter

in this field to suppress the printing of Form W-4 and the W-4 Certificate of Withholding Worksheets. Filing instructions for Form W-4 will also be suppressed. This option can be used when calculating only the W-4 Withholding Worksheet.
Deductions and Adjustments
This section may be required to ensure there is enough withholding taken out based on itemized deductions, certain claimed credits, and certain claimed adjustments.
Estimate of 2024 itemized deductions (Force)
Use this field to override the UltraTax CS-calculated amount for total itemized deductions.
Adjustments to income (Force)
UltraTax CS automatically includes all adjustments from Form 1040 or the Tax Projection Worksheet. Use this field to override UltraTax CS-calculated amount.
Total estimated tax credits (Force)
Enter an amount in this field to override (force) the total estimated credits calculated.
UltraTax CS includes the following credits for the calculation.
Use this field to override (force) UltraTax CS-calculated amount on Form W-4, Step 4(a).

Nonwage income is defined as interest, dividends, net rental income, unemployment compensation, alimony, gambling winnings, hobby income, capital gains or losses, royalties, and partnership income or losses.

This section is used to enter employer information to print on the W-4 Withholding Certificate and is only applicable if Form W-4 will be given to the employer.
