Use this screen to complete the Other Income and Adjustments to Income sections of Form 40 or 40NR.

Other Income

Use this section to enter other income for Form 40 or 40NR, including capital gains and losses, and miscellaneous income.
Capital gains and losses
Data from the
Sales of Capital Assets
statement window in the federal
B&D
screen automatically transfer to this statement window, together with entries from federal Forms 4684, 2439, 6781, 8815, and related party installment sales. Add or delete items in this statement window as required or alter the basis using the
Alabama Basis if Different
column. UltraTax CS includes the amounts from federal Forms 4797, 6252, and 8824 at print time and calculates them based in the
ALSale
and
AL8824
screens. To designate a transaction as business, use code

of the statement window.
Other income
The statement window contains entries for all items entered in the
Other income
statement window in the federal
Inc
screen, REMIC income from the federal
B&D
screen, excess 2106 reimbursements, gambling income as entered in the federal
W2-G
screen. Add or delete items in this statement window as required or use the
Amount if Different
column to make adjustments. UltraTax CS transfers these items to the Page 2, Part I, Other income line of Form 40 or 40NR. UltraTax CS also uses this field in calculating the Non-business Income section of Form NOL-85.
Gains from Form 2439 (Force)
For part-year and nonresidents, enter the Alabama-source amount of federal Form 2439 gains. If you leave this field blank, the amount defaults to the federal Form 2439 gain reported on federal Schedule D.

Adjustments to Income

Use this section to enter adjustments to income for Page 2 of Form 40 or 40NR. Adjustments to income are also used to complete Form NOL-85.
Taxpayer IRA deduction / ... / Keogh and SEP deduction (Force): Resident / Part-year Amounts
The Alabama IRA and Keogh / SEP deductions default to the amounts on federal Form 1040, Page 1. Use these fields to force the amounts if they are different for Alabama. For nonresidents, use these fields to force the Form 40NR, Page 2, column B, All Sources amounts.
Adoption expense
Use this field to enter the amount of adoption expenses. This field is used to complete Page 2 of Form 40 or 40NR, and Form NOL-85, Other non-business deductions.
Moving expense (Force): Resident / Part-year Amounts
The deduction for moving expense defaults to the federal amount. Use this field to force the amount if it's different for Alabama. For nonresidents, use this field to force the Form 40NR, Page 2, column B, All Sources amount. The AL postal code automatically prints on Form 40 or 40NR.
Moving expense (Force): Alabama city / Zip code
Enter the name and zip code of the Alabama city that was the destination of the move for which expenses were incurred. Note that the Alabama postal code prints on the form automatically.
Self employed health insurance (Force): Resident / Part-year Amounts
Use this field to force the self-employed health insurance deduction. For nonresidents, use this field to force the Form 40NR, Page 2, column B, All Sources amount.
Payments to PACT or college education savings program (Force): Resident / Part-year Amounts
Use this field to force the PACT deduction up to its limit. For nonresidents, use this field to force the Form 40NR, Page 2, column B, All sources amount.
Health insurance premiums for small employer employee
Use this field to enter health insurance premiums paid as part of an employer provided health insurance plan for an employer that has less than 25 employees.

The Alabama source amount for IRA, Keogh, and SEP deductions on Form 40NR, Page 2, column C defaults to the All Sources amount on Form 40NR, column B. Use this field to force the Form 40NR, Page 2, column C, Alabama Sources amount.
Moving expense (Force): AL Source Amounts Nonresidents Only
The Alabama source amount for moving expense on Form 40NR, Page 2, column C defaults to the All Sources amount on Form 40NR, column B. Use this field to force the Form 40NR, Page 2, column C, Alabama Sources amount.
Self employed health insurance (Force): AL Source Amounts Nonresidents Only
Use this field to force the self-employed health insurance deduction on Form 40NR, Page 2, column C, Alabama Sources amount.
Payments to PACT or college education savings program (Force): AL Source Amounts Nonresidents Only
Use this field to force the deduction up to its limit on Form 40NR, Page 2, column B, Alabama Sources amount.

Current Year Federal Tax Liability

Use this section to calculate the Alabama federal income tax deduction worksheet, which is used to calculate the deduction for Form 40, line 12, or Form 40NR, line 14. The Federal amounts column is calculated automatically but may be overruled if needed. The Joint federal amounts for allocation column should be used in cases where a joint federal return is filed, but the Alabama return(s) are filed using any other filing status (single, married filing separately, or head of family).
