Overview

Use this screen to complete Form 309.
note
When you process a multiple-state return, process the nonresident state(s) first, followed by the resident state. UltraTax/1040-AZ transfers necessary information to the return that will calculate the credit for taxes paid to other states.

General Information

State postal code and name
If you are using UltraTax CS to file a nonresident return or a resident return from California, Indiana, Oregon, or Virginia, UltraTax/1040-AZ automatically completes the
State postal code
field for the return that will claim the credit. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file a nonresident return, enter the state postal code, and UltraTax/1040-AZ completes the
name
field.
Dual resident of Arizona and another state
Mark this field if the taxpayer is a resident of Arizona and a statutory resident of the state for which you are claiming a credit for taxes paid to another state to calculate the Schedule of Income Allocation form.
Adjusted gross income of other state / Tax paid to other state
If you are using UltraTax CS to complete a nonresident return or to complete a resident return for California, Indiana, Oregon or Virginia, UltraTax/1040-AZ automatically completes these fields. Use the
Force
field to enter these amounts if they are different from the calculated amount. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file a return and want to claim this credit, enter the amounts from that state’s return in the
Force
field.
Wages, salaries, etc / … / Other income: Calculated or Forced
If you are using UltraTax CS to file the other states return, the income taxed on the other return automatically transfers to these fields. For returns not prepared in UltraTax CS, enter the income amounts here. Information entered here transfers to Form 309. More than three types of income are included in a statement instead of in the form.
Wages, salaries, etc / … / Other income: Taxable by Other State Force
If you are using UltraTax CS to file a nonresident return or to file a resident return for California, Indiana, Oregon or Virginia, UltraTax/1040-AZ automatically completes the
Calculated or Forced
column for the resident state return. Use the
Force
column to enter the income amounts if they differ from the calculated amounts. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file the other return and want to claim this credit, enter the income from that state’s return in the
Force
column.
Wages, salaries, etc / … / Other income: Sourced to Other State as a Nonresident
If the taxpayer is a statutory resident of the other state, enter the income that would be sourced to the other state if a nonresident.

Adjustments for Dual Residents

Educator expenses / … / Other adjustments: Taxable by Other State Force
If the taxpayer has dual residency, enter the adjustments reported on the return filed for the statutory state of residence and the portion that is sourced to that state. These amounts are used only on Form 309, Page 2.
Educator expenses / … / Other adjustments: Sourced to Other State as a Nonresident
If the taxpayer is a statutory resident of the other state, enter the adjustments that would be sourced to the other state if a nonresident.
