Overview

Use this screen to enter information you expect to be different in the next year. UltraTax CS uses this data to calculate the California Nonresident Tax Projection Worksheet. This worksheet is based on current law and next year tax law differences. Enter only the items you expect to be different for the coming year. If you do not enter an amount, the current-year amounts transfer to next year’s calculation automatically. Any amounts marked with an asterisk (*) in CATPWN Screen do not transfer automatically to the next year column. UltraTax CS allows you to enter
0
(zero) in the amount fields in this input screen.
note
Amounts that automatically transfer to next year’s calculation will transfer to the worksheet and not the input screen.

General Information

The filing status and qualifications for additional exemptions and dependents default to the Federal Tax Projection Worksheet. Use this section to enter general information for the column of the California Tax Projection Worksheet if different from the federal form.
Print Tax Projection Worksheet
The California Nonresident Tax Projection Worksheet prints if any information is entered in this screen. Enter
X
to force printing of the California Nonresident Tax Projection Worksheet when no other data is entered in the screen.
Standard or itemized deduction option (Force)
UltraTax CS reports both projected itemized deduction and projected standard deduction on the Tax Projection Worksheet. The default calculation for projected taxable income uses the more favorable of the two projected deductions. Use this field to force the calculation of projected taxable income to use either the projected standard deduction or the projected itemized deduction.
Military wages included in federal adjusted gross income for next year
UltraTax CS defaults to using the estimated federal adjusted gross income from the federal TPW for calculation of itemized deductions and exemption limitations. Use this field to enter the amount of military wages to be subtracted from the federal adjusted gross income for next year’s calculations.

Tax and Credits

Use this section to enter taxable income, California income tax before and after allocation, other taxes and nonrefundable credits as expected to appear on the next year’s Form 540NR.

Payments

Next year’s income tax withholding defaults to the current year withholdings, excluding withholding sourced to a taxpayer or spouse with a date of death entered in federal 1040 Screen. Use this section to enter to enter payment information that will be different next year.
