Overview

Use this screen to provide additional information needed to complete Form D-40 and schedules. If the information transferred from UltraTax/1040 doesn't require additional data or coding, UltraTax/1040-DC only shows it on the form and not on the input screen.
note
DCGen is available for full or part-year residents only.
Federal-to-state input screen and asset module data transfer
If you transfer information from federal input screens or from the asset module to a state input screen, the application displays the transferred data in blue; for example: .
You can replace the transferred amount by entering it in this field. The application then displays the new amount in black.
note
  • When you replace a transferred amount, the application doesn't replace that amount with subsequent federal-to-state or asset module data transfers.
  • To delete the replaced amount and restore the original transferred amount, right-click the field and select Delete overrule, or simply enter the original amount in the field.
  • To confirm the accuracy of the overruled amount, right-click the field and select Acknowledge overruled data. The application then disables the acknowledge functionality from the right-click menu. To restore the original amount later, you will need to enter it manually.
  • You can set a user preference to select fields you used to replace the transferred amounts and to list all replaced amounts in the Diagnostics window.
Statements
Many data entry fields provide predefined statements in which you can enter additional information. See the Statements overview for more about this.

Return Information

Joint filing status (Force)
If you filed the federal return as married filing jointly or single using the domestic partner option under File, then Client Properties, then the Federal tab, UltraTax CS optimizes the District of Columbia return and automatically selects the filing status that yields the lowest tax. UltraTax CS allocates the amounts used to calculate adjusted gross income between the taxpayer and spouse or domestic partner using the TSJ indicators, where available, as they were entered on the federal input screens. If you didn't enter a TSJ code, the data is allocated to the taxpayer. You can review and replace the allocated amounts on the District of Columbia AGI Worksheet. UltraTax CS optimizes itemized deductions, dependent exemptions, and certain credits when allocating amounts between the taxpayer and spouse.
Married combined, filing separate on same return deduction (Force)
UltraTax CS automatically allocates 50 percent each of the standard or itemized deduction used to calculate Form D-40 to the taxpayer and the spouse on Schedule S, Calculation J. Use these fields to allocate different amounts. If you use the force fields for either the taxpayer or the spouse, then you need to allocate the total deduction amount used on Form D-40.
Authorize discussion with state taxing authority
Use this field to change the option indicated on federal Screen 1040. A global default is available for all new clients for both federal and state returns. To use this option, select Setup, then 1040 Individual, then the Federal tab, then the New Client Options button. Then, from the dropdown list, select
