Overview

This screen is used to calculate the state taxable refund. Starting with tax year 2024, prior 3 years are supported for taxable state refund calculation. Prior 2 years (2023 & 2022) amounts are proforma'd to this section. Enter prior years amounts for 2021.
2023 Hawaii overpayment
Enter the amount of state tax overpayment from the prior year. If an amount isn't entered, the Hawaii State Tax Worksheet doesn't calculate. Instead, the federal taxable state refund is used. If in the prior year a balance was due, this field is blank and the federal amount should also be zero.
2023 Standard or itemized deduction
Enter the prior year's allowable deduction. This field, if blank, defaults to the standard deduction from the prior year using the current year's filing status.
2023 Hawaii portion of the federal taxable state refund (Force)
Enter an amount in this field to override the calculated amount of the federally taxable state tax refunds attributable to Hawaii on the Hawaii State Tax Refund Worksheet. This is only available for residents filing Form N-11.
2023 Nonresident income ratio
Enter the nonresident percentage as a whole number (0 to 100 percent) for previous filers of Form N-15. This field is used to calculate the percentage of standard deduction that is allocated to Hawaii. This field is ignored unless a value is entered.
2022 Hawaii overpayment
Enter the amount of state tax overpayment from the prior year.
2022 Standard or itemized deduction
Enter the prior year's allowable deduction. This field, if blank, defaults to the standard deduction from the prior year.
2022 Hawaii portion of the federal taxable state refund (Force)
Enter an amount in this field to override the calculated amount of the federally taxable state tax refunds attributable to Hawaii.
2022 Nonresident income ratio
Enter the nonresident percentage as a whole number (0 to 100 percent) for previous filers of Form N-15. This field is used to calculate the percentage of standard deduction that is allocated to Hawaii.
