Overview

Use this screen to prepare Form N-15. If information transferred from UltraTax/1040 does not require additional data or coding, UltraTax/1040-HI shows it on the form only, not in the input screen.

This screen only appears if you mark the state return as a part-year or nonresident return. To do so, choose File, Client Properties, go to the Hawaii tab and make sure the applicable Part-year Resident or Nonresident option is selected.

Residency Information

Use this section to enter residency information.
Dates of residency: From / To
Enter the dates that the taxpayer and/or spouse were residents of Hawaii.

AGI Worksheet State Amounts

Use this section to complete portions of Form N-15. UltraTax CS automatically calculates the Hawaii portion of income and adjustment amounts from entries in federal input screens based on the designated state postal code.

To change amounts on the AGI worksheet that do not have fields here override the taxpayer or spouse amount in the state columns.
NOL carryover
For part-year and nonresident returns, use these fields only when completing the State Amounts columns of the Hawaii AGI Worksheet for the Net operating loss carryover included in the Other income line. UltraTax CS defaults the amount of net operating loss carryover in the Federal Amounts column to the taxpayer when the federal filing status is married filing joint. The portion of the federal net operating loss carryover applicable to this state should be entered in the Net operating loss carryover taxpayer and spouse fields. Enter all amounts as positive numbers.
Parent claims child income
For part-year and nonresident returns, use these fields only when completing the Hawaii Amounts All Sources column of the Hawaii Other Income and Adjustments Worksheet for the Form N-814 income included in the Other income line on Form N-15, Page 2. Calculate Hawaii source amounts in Screen N814.

Part-Year/Nonresident Adjustments to Income

Use this section to complete portions of Form N-15. UltraTax CS automatically calculates the Hawaii portion of income and adjustment amounts from entries in federal input screens based on the designated state postal code. These amounts are used for nonresident and part-year returns in the Total income and Hawaii income columns.
IRA income / Pension income (Force)
Enter amounts that differ from calculated data entered in UltraTax/1040 due to Hawaii law differences. Amounts are used to complete Hawaii Form N-15
Income qualifying for military spouse exclusion
Enter wages, salaries, tips, or other income that were earned by the nonresident military spouse. Under the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act (MSRRA), such income is exempt from Hawaii income tax. Attach the documentation required for the MSRRA exclusion via Edit > Electronic Filing Attachment. The PDF title must begin with MSRRA for efile purpose.

Itemized Deductions Adjustments

Use this section to complete portions of Form N-15. UltraTax CS automatically calculates the Hawaii portion of income and adjustment amounts from entries in federal input screens based on the designated state postal code. These amounts are used on the Hawaii Itemized Deductions Worksheet on both the nonresident and part-year return for amounts attributable to Hawaii. Fields in this section are force fields.
Income qualifying for military spouse exclusion
Enter excluded amounts of income for nonresident military spouse income in the statement dialog. Enter a code to allocate the type of income. UltraTax CS adjusts amounts on Hawaii Form N-15.

Foreign taxes are included as apportioned taxes on the part-year return. Foreign taxes for a nonresident must be forced in Screen HIItmz.
Mortgage interest and points
Enter amounts that differ from calculated data entered in UltraTax/1040. Amounts are used to complete the Hawaii Part-Year and Nonresident Itemized Deductions Worksheets.

Taxes on out-of-state property
For part-year residents, income taxes are calculated automatically as in- or out-of-state. Taxes that cannot be allocated are apportioned.

Enter amounts that differ from calculated data entered in UltraTax/1040. Amounts are used to complete the Hawaii Part-Year and Nonresident Itemized Deductions Worksheets.
