Overview

Use this screen to provide additional information needed to complete Form K-40 and related schedules. If information transferred from UltraTax/1040 does not require additional data or coding, UltraTax/1040-KS shows it on the form only, not in the input screen.

Tax Credits

UltraTax CS uses the amounts you enter in this section to complete Form Sch CR, Kansas Tax Credit Schedule. Select the appropriate
Other credits code
and enter the amount from the supporting Kansas schedule.
Adoption credit
Eligible children entered in federal 8839 Screen in the statement dialog for the

field transfer to this screen; enter children only on federal 8839 Screen. Addition information may be needed in this statement dialog to calculate Form K-47, Kansas Adoption Credit.

statement dialog if the adopted child was a resident of Kansas prior to the adoption. Leave the state use column blank if the child was not a resident of Kansas prior to the adoption.

Notes
  • Adopted children who were nonresidents of Kansas at time of the adoption, even if they are special needs or in the custody of the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF), qualify for 25 percent of the federal credit allowed.
  • Adopted children who were residents of Kansas at the time of the adoption, qualify for 50 percent of the federal credit allowed.

statement dialog if the adopted child qualifies as a child with special needs. Children with this status (or in the custody of DCF) qualify for a credit of $1,500 in addition to the allowed portion of the federal credit.

  • Special needs children who are residents of Kansas at the time of the adoption qualify for 75 percent of the federal adoption credit allowed.
  • Special needs children who are not residents of Kansas at the time of the adoption (even if they are in the custody of DCF) qualify for 25 percent of the federal adoption credit allowed.

in this column if the adopted child was in the custody of DCF at the time of the adoption. Children in the custody of DCF (or a child with special needs) qualify for a credit of $1500 in addition to the allowed portion of the federal credit.

Note:
If a child is already designated as a special needs child, then X does not also have to be entered in this column. The total additional credit is $1,500 for any child who is either a special needs child or in the custody of DCF at the time of the adoption.
Form 8839 Credit Used
When one child is entered in the
Eligible children information
statement dialog in federal 8839 Screen, the lesser of the federal Form 8839 credit included on federal Form 1040 or the federal Form 1040 total tax is automatically used on Form K-47, line 1.
When adopting more than one child, allocate the federal adoption credit from Form 8839 to each child separately. Limit the total amount entered in this column to the federal adoption credit taken on federal Form 1040, Page 2.
Kansas Credit Carryover
Enter the carryover from the Form K-47, Part D. Any calculated carryover will proforma to this column.
Kansas Tax Liability (Force)
The Kansas Adoption Credits are used to offset the Kansas tax liability after the credit(s) for taxes paid to other states, the credit for child and dependent care expenses, and other remaining credits are utilized. Enter an amount in the this column to force a different amount than the calculated amount. Do not enter an amount that exceeds the remaining tax liability after other credits have been taken. If an amount is entered that is less than the eligible tax liability, the remaining credit will be transferred forward.
Year Final
Enter year adoption was finalized, if not current tax year.
Individual Development Account Credit (Schedule K-68)
Enter the refundable portion of the Individual Development Account Credit from Schedule K-68.
