Overview

Use this screen to complete Worksheet 5217-A, Credit for Income Tax Paid to Other Jurisdictions. This credit is not available for nonresidents.
If UltraTax CS is used to calculate another state’s return and it generates a credit for taxes paid to another state, UltraTax/1040-ME automatically includes copy of that return. When filing on paper, a paper copy prints. When filing electronically, a portable document format (PDF) of the nonresident return is attached.

State Income and Tax Information

Information in this section is used to complete the Worksheet for Credit for Income Tax Paid to Other Jurisdictions for residents for part-year residents. Complete one unit of the input screen for each state to which taxes were paid. If you use UltraTax CS to process a multiple-state return, process the nonresident state(s) first, followed by the resident state. UltraTax/1040-ME transfers the information necessary to complete the credit for taxes paid to other states from the nonresident return(s) to your resident state return. UltraTax CS calculates copies of the worksheet, as required.
State or foreign country
Enter either the state or foreign country where taxes were paid.
If you are using UltraTax CS to complete a nonresident return, UltraTax/1040-ME automatically completes the
State postal code and name
fields for the resident return. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file a nonresident return, enter the state postal code, and UltraTax/1040-ME completes the
Name
field.
Income taxed by other jurisdiction
If you are using UltraTax CS to process multiple states and have completed a nonresident return, UltraTax/1040-ME automatically completes the
Income taxed by other jurisdiction
field for your resident state return. Use the
Force
column to enter the taxable income if it is different from the calculated amount. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file a return for which you would like to claim this credit, enter the taxable income from that state’s return in the
Force
column.
Income tax paid to other jurisdiction
If you are using UltraTax CS to process multiple states and have completed a nonresident return, UltraTax/1040-ME automatically completes the
Income tax paid to other jurisdiction
field for your resident state return. Use the
Force
column to enter the tax paid if it is different from the calculated amount. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file a return for which you would like to claim this credit, enter the tax paid from that state’s tax return in the
Force
column.

Part-year Residents Other State Credit

Information in this section is used when filing a part-year return and claiming the credit. Complete one unit of the input screen for each state to which taxes were paid. If you use UltraTax CS to process a multiple-state return, process the nonresident state(s) first, followed by the resident state. UltraTax/1040-ME transfers the information necessary to complete the credit for taxes paid to other states from the nonresident return(s) to your resident state return. UltraTax CS calculates copies of the worksheet, as required.
