Retirement and Senior Citizens Issues

Eligible pension deduction (Force) (Maximum of $25,000)
UltraTax CS uses any pensions or IRAs from the federal 1099 Screen without a state use code to calculate the pension for line 1 of the worksheet for Pension Income Deduction. For nonresident/part-year, the nonresident portion of the pension deduction is calculated by figuring a ratio of out of state pension/total pensions and the ratio is then multiplied by the amount of the pension income deduction calculated on the worksheet for Pension Income Deduction.
Military annuity (State use code 34 on the federal 1099R Screen)
Amount transfer to these fields from the federal 1099R Screen when the
State
field is
ME
and the
State use
field is code
34
. This is a Maine adjustment and the
Maine
column fields will match the
Taxpayer
column fields. Overrule amounts as required.
State retirement pick-up contributions (Force)
UltraTax CS uses state use code
1
on the federal 1099R Screen to calculate pension disbursements that were previously taxed by Maine, and the amount will be included on Schedule 1. Use the taxpayer and spouse fields to force the amount if different. This adjustment is always considered a Maine subtraction and will not transfer to Schedule NR or NRH.

Federal Adjusted Gross Income Amounts

Fiduciary (Entered on Folder K1 E/T federal K1-St Screen)
Amounts entered on the federal K1-St Screen in the K1 1041 folder as Other Subtraction will transfer to these fields from units of the federal screen with
ME
entered in the
State
field. The amount will transfer to both the Taxpayer/Spouse and the Taxpayer - Maine/Spouse Maine columns.

Miscellaneous Subtractions

Wages from federal credits (Work Opportunity / Empowerment Zone)
Wages from the Federal Work Opportunity Credit and the Empowerment Zone Credit will transfer to the taxpayer column. If filing a Schedule NR indicates the portion of the amount in the federal column is related to the Maine income. If filing a Schedule NRH and the credits are from the spouse income instead of the taxpayer's income zero in the taxpayer column and enter the amount that transferred into the state column then enter the Maine portion in the Spouse Maine column.
