Use this screen to calculate Schedules CB, EC, and LP.

Circuit Breaker Credit

Use this section to calculate the amount of allowable Circuit Breaker credit.
Living quarters status
This field is required in order to calculate Schedule CB. When the option qualifies for both and is chosen, the application calculates two units of Schedule CB. Returns that have Code
3
selected do not qualify for electronic filing.
Address of principal residence
Use this statement dialog if Address of Principal Residence differs from information reported on Form 1 or Form 1-NR/PY.
Data entry in the
Type
column is necessary only for returns on which taxpayer is claiming
both
the homeowner’s portion and renter’s portion of the Circuit Breaker credit.
Assessed value of principal residence as of January 1,
2025
Homeowners must enter the assessed value of principal residence at the beginning of the tax year. If the assessed value is greater than the state-legislated threshold the credit is not allowed.
Real estate taxes paid in calendar year (
2024
) for principal residence (Force)
Principal residence property taxes transfer from federal A Screen to Schedule CB, Real estate taxes paid. 1040-MA includes property tax amounts that originate on federal Form 8829 and transfer to federal Schedule A. Enter an amount of real estate taxes paid in the calendar year if different from the amount on federal Schedule A.
Water and sewer use charges paid
The amount entered here is used to calculate the
2024
Circuit Breaker credit.
This amount is ignored if the
Water and sewer debt charges are included in property tax assessment
checkbox is marked.

When this field is marked, UltraTax CS assumes that water and sewer charges are already included in the Schedule CB amount reported as real estate taxes paid in the current year, and automatically calculates zero for the amount reported as 50 percent of water and sewer use charges paid in the current year.
Rent paid for principal residence (Force)
Rental information entered is used to calculate Schedule CB when Code 2 or 3 is selected as the living quarters status and the taxpayer(s) meet age qualifications. Enter an amount in this field if different from MADed Screen.
Income earned while a nonresident not included on Schedule CB Worksheet, Parts 1-3, Lines 1-17
For part-year residents only, enter the income earned while a nonresident that is not included on the Schedule CB Worksheet, lines 1 through 17.
Amounts from Massachusetts version of federal Schedule D (Force)
Use these fields to enter the respective amounts from federal Schedule D recalculated for Massachusetts purposes, if different from the calculated amounts.
