UltraTax/1040-MA prints copies of state returns for UltraTax CS nonresident states for which the credit for taxes paid to other states has been calculated.

State Income and Tax Information

Use this screen to complete the Massachusetts Credit for Taxes Paid to Other Jurisdictions Worksheets and Schedule OJC. If you are processing a multiple state return, process the nonresident states first, followed by the resident state. 1040-MA transfers information from your nonresident returns to your resident return, with the assumption that all income transferred was taxable at a 5.00 percent rate in Massachusetts. Adjust the amounts to reflect any income that was taxable at a 8.5 percent rate or at the long-term capital gain rate in Massachusetts.

fields for the resident return. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file a nonresident return, enter the state postal code, and UltraTax/1040-MA completes the

field for the resident state return.
Income taxable to other state
If you are using the application to complete a nonresident return, 1040-MA completes the
Income taxable to other state
field for the
resident
state return. As initially calculated, all income is assumed to be taxable at 5.00 percent. Use the
Force
fields to change the 5.00 percent taxable amount and enter any 8.5 percent or long-term capital gain taxable amounts. If you didn’t use the application to complete a nonresident return, for which you would like to claim this credit, enter the taxable income from that state's return in the
Force
field.
Tax paid to other state
If you are using the application to complete a nonresident return, UltraTax/1040-MA completes the
Tax paid to other state
field for the
resident
state return. As initially calculated, all tax due to the other state is assumed to be from 5.00 percent income. Use the
Force
fields to change the 5.00 percent tax due amount and enter any 8.5 percent or long-term capital gain tax due amounts. If you didn’t use the application to complete a nonresident return, for which you would like to claim this credit, enter the tax paid from that state's return in the
Force
field.
State disability insurance payments: 5.00% Income calculated
The application uses the amounts entered on the federal W2 screen from either Box 19 when the postal code is
RI
and the Locality code is
TDI
, or the amount from the federal W2 screen, Box 14, Code
5
and the postal code is
RI
to calculate the temporary disability insurance payments. When 2 or more W2's per taxpayer include Rhode Island disability insurance payments, the application calculates and limits amounts based on information at www.UITAX.RI.GOV.
State disability insurance payments
When necessary, the application calculates and limits the temporary disability insurance payment amounts for the taxpayer and spouse. Enter only an amount different than the calculated amount. The application lets you enter
0
(preparer zero) in the amount fields in this input screen.
