Overview

Use this screen to make necessary adjustments to income and deduction amounts for a part-year resident / nonresident return.

This screen appears only if you mark the state return as a part-year or nonresident return. To do so, choose File, Client Properties, and then Massachusetts tab and verify the applicable part-year resident or nonresident checkbox is marked.

General Information

Enter general information for part-year residents and nonresidents in this section.
Residency dates: From / To
Using MMDDYY format, enter the dates of residency for a part-year resident.
You do not have a family home outside MA
For non-residents only. Mark this field to indicate the taxpayer qualifies for the rental deduction when a non-resident. See Form 1-NR/PY instructions.
Wages, salaries, tips and other compensation (Force)
Use this field to force the amount of Wages, salaries, tips reported on Form 1-NR/PY.
Self-employed health insurance deduction to report on Schedule Y (Force)
Use this field to force the Self-employed health insurance deduction reported on Schedule Y.
Explanation of differences between total federal and total Massachusetts nonresident income
An explanation of differences is required when total federal income on Form 1-NR/PY, line a exceeds total Massachusetts nonresident income on Line 14f by a margin of at least 10%.

Dependent Care Expenses

Use this section to force amounts used by the Dependent Care Benefits and Child Under 13 or Disabled Dependent / Spouse Care Deduction Worksheets. Use these fields to adjust calculated amounts for the portion of dependent care expenses attributable to Massachusetts source income.

Use this field to enter an amount different than the calculated amount. Do not enter more than $4,800 or $9,600.

Nonresident Worksheet

Use this section to complete the Massachusetts Nonresident Apportionment Worksheet on Form 1-NR / PY, Page 2.
Basis
If data is entered for taxpayer or spouse, the fields on Form 1-NR / PY, Page 2 are completed. If data is entered for taxpayer and spouse, the text See Statement appears on Form 1-NR / PY, Page 2 and the Massachusetts Nonresident Apportionment Worksheet is completed for submission with the return.
Line on Form 1-NR/PY to which apportioned income applies
When apportioning income, be sure to indicate the line to which such income is to be applied.

Non-Massachusetts Source Income Worksheet

Use this section to enter additions and exclusions to income that are not Massachusetts source based.

Adjustments for No Tax Status and Limited Income Credit

Use this section to enter additional income and additional adjustments to income. Enter a positive amount for additions and a negative amount for subtractions.
