Screen MA8829 - Massachusetts Home Office Expenses (1040)
Overview
Use this screen to complete federal Form 8829 and/or the Massachusetts Business Use of Your Home Worksheet with Massachusetts amounts. All depreciation and amortization information transfers directly into this screen from the UltraTax CS fixed asset module and then transfers to Form 8829 and other relevant forms. It is important to report any state-related law differences and details in this screen.
- UltraTax CS provides a global option that allows you to specify how to enter asset information. You can enter it either in the fixed asset module or in the various depreciation input screens. When you specify the fixed asset module as your method of asset data entry, this screen is not applicable and the depreciation tab for this input screen does not appear. For details, see Where do I enter asset data.
- If you are not using the fixed asset module and you want to override depreciation or amortization amounts on the relevant form(s), you must enter the information in this input screen.
Nonresident and part year residents Home Office Depreciation for Schedule C, Rental, and Farm activities:
- Depreciation allowable reported on the Massachusetts versions of federal Form 8829 or the Home Office Worksheet is calculated by multiplying the amount in theDepreciationfield (or, if blank, theDepreciation from federalfield) by the Massachusetts in-state depreciation allocation percentage in the MAC, MARent, or MAF Screens.
- Home Office Depreciation For Schedule K-1 activities:Depreciation allowable reported on the Massachusetts version of the federal Home Office Worksheet is calculated by multiplying the amount in theDepreciationfield (or, if blank, theDepreciation from federalfield) by the in-state source percentage entered in the K-1 multi-state allocation spreadsheet. If no percentage is present, UltraTax CS defaults to 100 percent if the postal codeMAappears in this screen and to zero if the postal code MA does not appear in this screen.
