For residents, if no amounts are entered in this statement dialog, UltraTax CS calculates the taxable pensions from amounts entered in federal 1099R Screen with a state use code of blank. For part-year residents and nonresidents, UltraTax CS defaults to amounts with postal code
MA

IRA and Keogh distributions received in
2024
: Subject to recovery of contributions (Force): Taxpayer / Spouse
The Massachusetts Taxable IRA and Keogh Plan Distributions Worksheet, line 1, automatically includes the box 1 Gross distribution amount (less the amount in the
Amount of rollover
field if not converting from traditional IRA to Roth IRA) from units of federal 1099R Screen that meet any of the following conditions when the state use code is
not
10, Distribution is not subject to recovery of contributions.
  • State use code is
    1
    (IRA) or
    16
    (Keogh).
  • In box 7, the
    IRA / SEP / SIMPLE
checkbox is marked, and the code in the
    Distribution code
field is not R, Recharacterized IRA contribution.
  • In box 7, the
    Distribution code
field is marked as J, Early distribution from a Roth IRA.
Use these fields to force the amount to include on Massachusetts Taxable IRA and Keogh Plan Distributions Worksheet, line 1.
note
  • Distributions from Roth IRAs are usually
    not
reportable on the Massachusetts Taxable IRA and Keogh Plan Distributions Worksheet if the taxpayer meets age and holding period requirements (or other similar requirements). UltraTax CS omits the box 1 Gross distribution amount from the worksheet when the
    IRA / SEP / SIMPLE
checkbox in federal. 1099-R Screen is blank, unless the related box 7, Distribution code is J, Early distribution from a Roth IRA.
  • Form 1099-R instructions indicate that the
    IRA / SEP / SIMPLE
checkbox in box 7 is not required for Roth IRA distributions. However, if the distribution amount from a Roth IRA is includible on the Massachusetts Taxable IRA and Keogh Plan Distributions Worksheet, you may include the box 1 Gross distribution amount on line 1 by marking the
    IRA / SEP / SIMPLE
    checkbox or entering
    1
    in the
    State Use
    field in federal 1099R Screen.
