Overview

Use this screen to complete Form M1. If information transferred from UltraTax/1040 does not require additional data or coding, UltraTax/1040-MN shows it on the form only, not in the input screen.

  • For resident returns

    (zero) to the Minnesota taxable income line on Form M1 to calculate the refund of taxes already paid. When the total taxable income is not equal to the federal taxable income plus additions less subtractions, the returns are not eligible for filing electronically.
  • For part-year and nonresident returns

Welfare amounts received / Additional income items
Welfare amounts received and additional income items not reported as income on Form M1 are included in various credit forms as household income. In the statement dialog attached to the
Additional income items
field, enter any additional income items that must be included on credit forms that require household information. UltraTax/1040-MN automatically includes the required income additions for pension payments, nontaxable interest, passive losses, capital losses, net operating loss carryovers, Form 4972 ordinary income, forgiveness of debt excluded from income, and other employee benefits entered on Form W-2 in the W2 federal screen.

The definition of household income for Schedule M1PR differs from the definition for other forms in Minnesota. The nontaxable IRA (Roth and traditional) income is included on Schedule M1PR. That amount is not displayed in this statement dialog. Use the MNPR screen to adjust the amount for Schedule M1PR.
General footnote
Entries in this statement dialog proforma from the prior year. The general footnote appears as a separate item in each collation. This statement may be printed and attached to the return for informational purposes. And entry in this field is included in electronically filed returns.

Contributions

State campaign fund / Display state campaign fund selection on Form M1PR
If the taxpayer or spouse chooses to designate $5 of state money to help candidates for state offices pay campaign expenses, enter the code for the party chosen. This does not change the balance due or refund on the return. By default, this information is included on Form M1. To include the information on Form M1PR instead, enter

Nongame Wildlife Fund
Use this field to enter the amount of contribution the taxpayer would like to make to the Nongame Wildlife Fund. The entry transfers to Form M1 and decreases the refund or increases the balance due on the return.
